Hetzer!!

Post by tmanthegreat » Sat Apr 07, 2012 2:15 pm

OK, its 1:6 scale and not 1:18

Image

Just thought I'd share the most recent addition to my growing 1:6 vehicle fleet. The model is apparently a complete scratch-build and is a good (though simplistic) representation of the tank with a nice paint scheme. It was constructed using molded styrene, resin, wood, metal, and plastic accessories. Numbers & national insignia were painted on. A lot of the hanging stowage (packs, jerry cans, etc) I added myself, as well as the Dragon tanker figures.

Image

Its not completely accurate by any stretch of the word (a look at the rear fenders, for example, will tell one that) and does not have the side skirts. Only the hatches open and the MG rotates; no other major features. I will likely try at some point to re-engineer the main gun so that can elevate and traverse and may attempt the side skirts.

Image

Still, the Hetzer looks the part, appears impressive (particularly next to my 21c Stuart) and I'm quite happy with it :D

What ya give for it? Looks good and considering there are no Hetzers being massed produced in 1/6, we do need some 'bad guys tanks' too!

Any tips on another one or similar LET ME KNOW!!! I have a 21st Century JEEP, Kubel, Ketten and 2 M5's. I need a German tank now too. :P

....... just curious but , is this a model purchased from "usmcchet" ? ... not bad. I presume you got a great deal on it because these can be quite pricey , especially the über detailed ones.

I got this at www.toychestandcollectables.com. Not a bad store to deal with for 1:6 stuff. The fancy (and far more accurate) 1:6 Hetzers often go for $800-$1000 and I paid less than half that.

This Hetzer appears to have been a one-off custom - once I had purchased it, the listing was taken off the site. I was on the site a couple weeks ago and the Hetzer caught my eye, being one of my favorite WWII armored vehicles and all.

It kind of looks like a Di Simeon Hetzer that some one has done a lot of work on.

When they first came out they sold for $80 and believe me it was worth $60.

The wheels were horrible along with the tracks

But someone has upgraded the wheels and tracks. The mantlet looks like he did not rework it.

Mine is still torn down . It has been like that for about 10 years .

None the less your guy did a great job with a lot of work on it and it shows.

You are a lucky dog. :D :D :D

The guys in your Stuart look like they're trying to climb out and get away  Looking at the two side by side, I don't think they would have stood a chance :!: Very impresive and ominous looking

Sure looks like a DeSimone vehicle. Like Pickel says, it looks like alot of work has been put into it.

Nice collection addition. Cory at Toychest & Collectibles is a nice guy to deal with. Among other things, he is the licensed dealer for Armor Hobbies, and the sole supplier of parts for the AH SfKfz 250.

The Hetzer and Stewart are two good little tanks good to collect in this scale. If i was collecting 1/6 figures this is the kind of tank i would have displayed next to the Germans.
A Tiger or Panther would be too big.
And yes,i tough i was going to see a 1/18 Hetzer.LOL
I can see you also collect 1/18 armor.

I passed on a Tiger so many times. It would be twice a big as my 32" TV!!! But, I just had to add a 71X29X11 shelving unit to the "Hobby Room" yesterday. I've added more 1/6 items and now need a German tank.

Now I kinda wish I had bought one anyway for they are VERY expensive now.

Still, I do like this Hetzer. I like it alot!

Thanks for all the kind comments! Did a little research & found that the builder did definitely use a DeSinone Hetzer tooling as the starting point. They then added a lot of details & modifications (handholds, hatches, tools, the MG, etc). The most noticable change is the wheels & tracks, which were produced by Marden. I'm no expert in 1:6 customizers, but I understand Marden makes pretty accurate & quality stuff. Still don't know who specifically made this, but I like their work :D

On a resale, you may never know. One of my favorite pieces in 1/6 is a 21C Scout Car made in Russian Lend Lease livery. The builder even made a pair of resin Maxiums on the pedestal mount. Looks great but the guy I bought it from had no idea who originally made it.

You take what you have and just appreciate it. 8)
