1:18 F-104 Starfighter "Boelke"

Post by C00per » Fri Jan 21, 2011 5:10 am

Hey everybody,

I just got an email from a german etailer about an exclusive version of the F-104G. They are taking preorders for it now so I asked if it is a customized 21st C. Starfighter or not but havn´t received an answer yet. However, it seems to be a nice variant:

http://www.warbirdmodelle.de/start.htm? ... oelke_.htm

They charge 79€ which is about 105US-$ for the model.

Greetings

Might be a JSI repaint....

They had some at the toy shows, just not this paint scheme though.

I agree: the only manufacturer for the 1/18 104 was 21st Century. But this should be more than a repainted modell. Modified canopy, ejection seat, landing gear, moving flaps/elevon, removable missiles etc. makes it interesting. Add more than 50$ for shipping from Germany...

Well, I got the answer.
It is not manufactured by one of the well known companies so it does not seem to be a JSI production. So I guess it is a customized 21st C. Starfighter. However, I preordered one and will post some pics once I´ve got the model.

What's different about it from the original 21C version?

An example for a thing that seems to be remodeled is the cockpit hood. At least that´s what they mailed me. The original one was to "inflated" so that one thing they have corrected. If I do get some pictures of the model I´ll post them.

Thank you, COOper. Yes, any further info you can share would be great. I'm interested, but only if there are substantial differences from the original.

Hi,

I´ve asked several etailers and have been told that the Starfighter will be available at the end of July. It is a limited release (1000 pieces made).

You can see more pictures of the F104 G here:

http://www.48specialmodels.com/d-produk ... -f104.html

They also offer an unpainted 1:18 pilot for the F104....

Greetings

this is another pirated piece from 21c! i understand Allgo is in the process of filling in German court over this and has also talked to U.S. customs. its a similiar situation to the 88 problem and i for one wont be doing business with this guy

Seems like Algo is spending a good bit of money in lawyer and court fees. Money that could be spent making new product. I hope they get this crap sorted out.

I think American_Grenadier is right. This really seems to be a JSI release. When I asked about it in january I was left with the impression that it is a customized 21st C. Starfighter with some slight modifications coming out of germany (maybe old stock of Starfighters) by some customizers. After asking serveral times about the manufacturer I was explicitly told that it is none of the well known manufacturers. So I thought they used old 21st C. starfighters and repainted them in very small numbers. But the website clearly states that the manufacturer is indeed JSI and considering the production number of 1000 models this is the only explanation that makes sense.

Too bad, I think it was a nice model but Allgo is certainly right to protect their interests.

I have a dumb question that was probably covered way back when during the 21st meltdown: Is the problem that Allgo doesn't own the molds, but does own the rights to sell the products created from the molds?

If that is the problem, then in a rational world (I know that's a stretch), there's an economic and legal structure that Allgo and the owners of the molds could do to put an end to all this nonsense and start getting products back on the market: Just create a new entity that each side owns a negotiated part of and get back to work. Is there some reason this hasn't been done?

I don’t think it’s ever really been stated as to what the full situation was regarding 21C and the loss of their molds after they went belly up. It may be a stretch but either they did indeed sell them with some sort of limited rights or the Chinese producer they were dealing with just kept them due to some form of payment loss.

I know to Algo it’s just another bump in the road but to their customers it’s getting a bit frustrating. We saw a huge reissue of items shortly after they died and now everything that’s coming to market they are fighting. I just want to know what’s going on. From a buyers perspective it’s hard to keep trust in a company or product when stuff like this is happening. I shouldn’t have to wonder if I’m screwing over Algo and supporting the Chinese when I go to buy a toy. They need to make a statement to their fan base.

In my opinion, the timely release of these two promised 1:32 birds will be the real indicator. If they get them released on schedule (which is now July and August) then I will believe they have the wherewithal to get the ball rolling again. If not...

Today I got an email that the Starfighter is on it´s way. So it seems that they got through customs and are delivered to customers in Germany now. Several etailers offer the starfighter over here. Once I got mine I will post some pictures.....

Got some interesting news from the german distributor of the Boelcke starfighter: he said that 1000 pieces were produced and ordered by him but somehow 600 of them "disappeared". So they are already sold out of the 400 they received. Now they try to figure out were the rest is.

And he also told me that the license issues are solved and that they paid the license-fee.

I keep looking at this plane, and I really like the overall compared to other paint schemes. I had the Tiger Meet briefly, but I thought it was a little wonky looking.

Historic Aviation had them in their newest catalog. (NOTE: the HA catalog has mixed photos of both Boelke and Marine Flieger, though the description and price are in line with Boelke.)

I'm wondering if out of the 1000, if the distributor sold them to others.

If you are fence sitting, it is a great plane.
