1/18 SCALE P-51B/C MUSTANG CONVERSION, WHO'S INTERESTED?

Post by rschaap » Fri Aug 12, 2011 1:47 pm

I believe of all the 1/18 prop jobs the P-51D is probably the most produced. Given the present economic situation I don't foresee any of the big companies producing anything new in the near or immediate future. It's my opinion that conversions are going to be a viable and economic solution to everyone who collects the large scale models and wants variety.

I asked if Pickelhaube would be interested in picking up where the now defunct "Skyworks" left off with the P-51B/C. He told me if there was enough interest in it, he could be looking at producing it less expensively then what had been offered. I've seen the conversion offered by Skyworks and it looks like a fairly easy job that would require an afternoons work, minus the paint and any decals.

There is also the possibility he may look at the P-51A conversion and the A-36A Apache (an attack version of the mustang which would require some additional parts.

So here is your chance to chime in and lets hear what you think about the P-51B/C.

I would definitely be interested in at least one conversion kit, possibly more.

An A-36 Apache conversion would be nice. There would be quite a few changes needed for that to work with the current P-51 molds.

There also would be many changes to make a P-51B or C model starting with the wing. The B and C had four .50 cals, while the D model had six .50 cals.

Skyworks did not make any of the modifications to the P-51D beside the cockpit area and canopy. The guns or other changes required to make the model a full on B/C were not made. In spite of this the finished product looked great. I'm sure anyone with a little modelling skill could make the other modifications in order to satisfy the need to have a more accurate model.

I figure if Pickelhaube does do the conversion I would be interested in have a few.

Interested.

But it would have to be a completed model. Don't have the time, skills or room to do these myself.

My 2 cents.

They were converted from both the 21st Century and BBI models per an advertisement from the Militarytoyshop.com. I found this via google.com after I typed "1/18 Skyworks P-51B/C" into the search engine and brought up the old descriptions of the P-51B/C offered.

I already got one P-51B conversion kit from SkyWorks Jack for some discount that he asks my custom figure to be the part of SkyWorks products. The thing didn't go through smooth with deal then SkyWorks gone!
I'll like to have more P-51B/C, even P-51A will also strongly interested.

So far I count 7 (counting the two I would buy if it happened) and 2 possibles. I know there are more people out there who would like to have one. Need to hear from you before the post dies.

Has there been talk about a target price? I could go for two if I could swing it.
