New 1/18 RC tank

Post by Threetoughtrucks » Fri Jan 28, 2011 10:06 pm

I have no idea what this new tank is supposed to be, Chinese, Ruskie, German, French ?

At least it is a new 1/18 tank.

Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

yeah i've been thinking about getting that for years. Trouble is it will make my 1/18 Abrams look like a panzer IV, so i can never pull the trigger and get one.

The size difference between 1/18 and 1/16 keeps surprising me, over and over. I still can't get used to it.

Yeah, I saw the Tamia one in Dubai and it was a monster! It's really a shame that the OP's tank isn't 1/18th, the price was very right.

The Hobby Engine Leo 2A5 is a beautiful tank, but crappy RC. I was lucky enough to find one in the US for $100, but it is not worth the $200+ to get it from England. I'm currently dumping $100's in it to make it a good RC and to add Tamiya tracks and sprockets.

Cool video of a fully upgraded one:

The Abrams is equally impressive and readily available in the US:

I sold my Bravo M1 as soon as my 1:16 Leo 2 shipped to avoid any mental size comparisons with full intentions of replacing with the above version. The quality of the shell and paint on these are impressive to say the least. Well worth the $100 for that alone. That video of yhr's shows the potential of this beast.

so pcsguy88, are you replacing all your 1/18 tanks with 1/16? It's something i've debated on and off doing but the cost of replacing all the 1/18 i have now with 1/16 is considerable, even factoring in selling the 1/18. Plus there's the emotional turmoil involved. :)

It's a debate between replacing everything with 1/16 or sticking with 1/18 and starting to buy customs, like PH makes.

The r/c aspect of 1/16 doesn't interest me at all, so that's not a factor in my decision. It's just cost and variety of models.

I sold off all my modern 1:18 over the past year and luckily started my WWII armor in 1:16, so it's an easy swap for me. I enjoy the mechanics and metal tracks as much as having a certain tank, so most of mine have several $100's in them and are the pride of my collection. If I was invested in 1:18 armor and didn't care about the rc functions, I would just put those $'s into a custom or two a year.

Yuck! PTE... I started off with them and moved on to BBI & 21st stuff I like the quality better. tho Most of my Gi Joe Vehicles look bad in comparison so that has really hurt. I need to invest in a airbrush kit so i can fancy up my Cobra bubbles and Hiss tanks.

The Chinese FAV is better detailed than any bbi or Bravo vehicle I've owned with it's removable tools and rubber tires. Amazing customs are also being created with the IFV. The Type 98 is a bit simplistic, but atleast is a proper scaled enemy for the Abrams to shoot at.

The only Joe vehicle I have is the Killer WHALE due to it's size and Nam custom value.

hmm..

thanks for the info. :)

Just as an observation: the link to the 1/24 scale model you posted...that model is actually almost 1/18. The specs for the SK5 are 37 feet long and 24 foot beam. The model is 25 inches long and over 14 inches wide. Unless i'm missing something, that's almost 1/18 scale. The Joe Whale looks about 18 inches long to me, so the model would be quite a bit larger and accurately shaped.

edit: I just saw the price and it's $200. But what's money when accurate, cool toys are at stake....lol.
