P47 cockpit details...

Post by krieglok » Sat Sep 03, 2005 10:18 pm

I recently picked up a Eagleston P47 bubble top and I was wondering if I am missing something out of the cockpit. There is no "top" to the control/instrument panel and there isnt a gun sight. My 1:32 version of the same plane has a gun sight protruding from the dash, but no top either. Is this they way they are coming out or am I missing some parts here. I almost forgot. The pilot figure didnt have any of the usual details like the holster ect.

Yep, it's supposed to be that way. Bubbletops did not have a dashboard and the gunsight was attached to the instrument panel supports.

You can see the canopy framing around the front in this picture, indicating that there was no dash.

This model shows no dash either:

All pilots were issued without parachutes, holsters and O2 masks on all planes after the P-38. It must of been a cost cutting exercise. I personally miss the O2 mask the most.

Well, at least the 21c version is accurate :) My only gripe (besides the onetime QC issues) is that the pilot's seat and headrest sit too low in the cockpit.

Heres a link to an excellent reference site for instrument panel photos. Scroll down, click on "Early Fighters" and then scroll down untill you see the P47 section.
