It is the asking price. With all of the repaints out there , there is a lot to choose from.

E-bay has a lot of average collectors . The high end guys are not going to buy unless they know you or you have a rep. that has been built up.

My opinion.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

Money is tight these days and what pickelhaube wrote is also very true..
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

true i quess, but i not giving up just yet. like you told me before, you got go through the trial and error phase before you get it just right, perhaps part of the problem is i keep changing the price too, so i had my wife change the password, but i actually did a bit a repainting on the missiles today, looks great post pics tomorrow.

Good choice in schemes.Have this one in 1/72 Century Wings, and she looks good.

Just most collectors have a "cut off point"

I wasn't willing to spend $200+ for a faulty F-14.

Certainly not going to spend three times that price on a repaint.

Just my opinion,and wallet.

My two cents

Post by jetsmaniac » Sat May 08, 2010 7:54 pm

I used to sell on ebay for profit, not anymore. Ebay isn't a friendly place for professional sellers. Skyrocketing fees, unappreciative buyers. They want things ridiculously cheap. Your sweat and time mean nothing to them.

Since you have produced it already, I suggest you to use "buy-it-now" for $600 or so for 30-day duration, for only $0.50. You will pay a hefty fee, but still cheaper than auctioning it.

I still don't recommend making it a business, but if you really want to, I have some suggestions:

1) You can list a 30-day buy-it-now, something like "F-14 customization service". Think it $0.50-for-30 day ad. Tell your buyer to email you for orders.

2) Don't pre-manufacture! Buyers who are willing to pay that price are picky. They want their own squadrons and numbers. If you pre-manufacture what they don't want, they won't buy it.

3) Better ask for some cash like $30 in advance. Some people will fool you, ordering one then canceling it when you are making.

I don't see it as a way of paying your monthly bills unless you have a company like Jack. He takes orders, not selling finished products. I think there is a reason.

Here is from the angle of a ebay seller. Don't tread on me if you don't agree with me. 8)

we will try that if it doesn't sell this time, but i quess i need to be more patient afterall, like i have been told i have to build a rep, and well when you only got one plane to show off and hopefully sell its kinda hard, plus its made by jsi. one thing my wife and i have been discussing is from now on replacing the mains with skyworks mains. they look so much better and are so much stronger. as far as money goes i will be getting a military pension soon, so i'll have so money to play with and be able to produce more planes and schemes. my problem is i need to be patient. cause i got some great schemes and ideas i want to try, like opening panels to reveal the 20mm cannon!

the plane looks great but rep is real important. when i started doing design i undersold myself so bad it was sick but i loved what i did so it did not matter. but after about a year or two my company had a rep and portfolio to back the pay we wanted and tripled our prices no big deal.

Unfortunately you will likely have to sell yourself short to get planes in hands. Most business start off just breaking even. right now you just need the hobby to pay for it self. Also you need get planes in more peoples hands to give you both positive feed back and word of mouth advertising. The more planes you have painted the more finished product you can show as proof of quality in your portfolio which will be key if you want to do it by order. Anyway thats my opinion on it.

The bottom line is it takes time, love and a humble starting point.
