How to make a 1/18th Flight deck???? anyone??
I was wondering how would one make a 1/18th US carrier Flight deck for a display base for the Tomcat?
what would the pattern of those little "+"be, and what color would you paint the flight deck....
Are there any patterns out there that we can use?

I've used a 4' x 6' hardboard (smooth side) for my carrier deck display...It fits three F18s and one F14 (all w/wings folded/swept back)...I painted it with Rust-Oleum MultiColor Textured spray paint (dark gray), and it really looks pretty good. The paint is quite expensive and, because of the heavy solid content, doesn't go very far, but the finish is "gritty" yet permanent (i.e. it does not shed or flake)...
I used model aircraft "stripe" tape for the markings, but it is definitely not authentic. It does, however, look pretty cool and I'm the only one in my "world" who cares about it, or would know any better!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

I mean the pattern of those "+"acisne wrote:The back side if some "anti-fatigue" or "back saver" mats have a pattern that looks close. I bought these at Sam's a while ago. It is the kind that interlocks to make a large play area.

That's a great idea and it's exactly what I would have suggested. I've used the textured spray for a lot of different projects, it's great stuff and works really well for simulating the rough exterior cast armor surface on some 1/16 RC tanks. The only thing I might have done differently than you did on your carrier deck is to paint the stripes instead of using tapes, that way you could use paints for weathering, which might not work as well if applied over tape.456THBG wrote:..I painted it with Rust-Oleum MultiColor Textured spray paint (dark gray), and it really looks pretty good....
