JSI F-14 in kit form?
F-14
Also gotta think the spot debacle is going to hurt pre-orders. More people will be inlcined to see the actual production model before ordering.

Re: F-14
True, and it will not only hurt pre-orders between consumer and retailer, it has hurt pre-orders between retailer and manufacturer/distributor. This kind of stuff travels the length of the supply chain. Ultimately, unless those at fault have a "come to Jesus" moment then this is a stink that will linger for a long time.digger wrote:Also gotta think the spot debacle is going to hurt pre-orders. An answer from JSI.
I finally received an answer from Tony at Merit Int'l regarding the JSI 1/18 F-14 A kit. So here it is for all you non-believers.
Hi Rudy
Thank you for your email inquiry about the 1/18 F14A kit.
Yes, a kit version will be released around June/July. Right now we are determining how much parts need to be sub-assembled and at same time making the kit for easy build and paint.
Hope to hear from you soon.
All the best
Tony

F-14A in kit form
I think this kit will take off for a number of reasons. I know as a model builder the challenge is awe inspiring. I know as a collector it can fill a gap in my collection by allowing me the opportunity to build a late model version. I also hold the belief that some of the companies that make conversion and add on kits along with photo-etched parts will jump on the band wagon because of the builders demands. Call me an optimist but it never hurts to believe.
I'm in for a couple
A kit would/could be big. 1/32nd scale has seen a real surge the past few years and I think once a few modelers see just how big this thing is many will want at least one 1/18th scale bird for their fleet and the F-14 is just one of those iconic aircraft. For me it would be much easier to modify a kit to "D" standards than prying apart an existing bird. One thing the Chinese know how to do is glue the dam things together.
Regards,
Mike

I left a message for Tony to see if he had an idea of the price of the model. I'll pass on the information as soon as I hear back. I am already gathering data on possible conversions and what color schemes and markings I want to represent.
Bad Taste?
I can understand being a little upset with JSI. My Tomcat came to me missing the Arrestor hook and houseing and the ECM houseings under the leading edge. They sent me the arrestor hook and houseing. Nothing so far on the ECM recievers. But in this day and age when there are absolutely no body doing 1/18th I will take JSI happily with all thier little nuisances. Although the Spots were unacceptable.

I've created some pretty good looking pilots with Joe bodies and the helmets from the PTE "paratrooper" (or whatever they call it) figure -- I guess it's supposed to be a HALO jumper or something, but the head/helmets with oxygen mask and hose look very good on the joe bodies. With some dremeling on the butts and back of the thighs they fit fine and look good with the matching helmets.
F-14A Kit
For those of you asking about the pilots. When Tony gets back to me on the price of the kit I'll ask about the pilot and RIO release date and cost. I'm hoping to hear from him soon. Come to think of it, I'll ask about the support vehicles they have shown duing a couple of the toy shows as well.
