thatf14guy wrote:after finishing one bomb i can say that vacuum form sucks! cutting out these parts takes time and patients, let alone doing more. i may do alot more custom repaints to sell on ebay than do bombcats. bombcats will take alot of time, hours, patients, costs. so i will only do them for ebay at a rate of one a month or as i please. after today i most say the price may go up even more, so if you want one i hate to say you will pay the price. as for the quality of these bombs i will say i think there okay, i think the gbu i done today looks very toyish. i plan on doing other bombs however and will post pics in the near future. will post more pics of the trial bomb soon. i may also try doing a custom service for forum members in the future, but i am a lone man right now, or to say a one man company and i'm yet to produce a tomcat, but soon!
Doing custom work aint easy.
It takes time and money with the chances of getting no return for your trouble.
It took me 3 weeks to make my Sdkfz 222 prototype.

Like it has been mentioned, all you would need is to do is make bomb racks, typical bombs Tomcats would carry and a flir pod and there you go: F-14A Bombcat. If the mould was of an early A model Tomcat it wouldn't work, but this is of a late model A Tomcat and could be easily and accurately converted into a Bombcat. Not a $300+ dollar conversion, that's for sure!

I don't think firefighterpilot was trying to imply that making bombs or any kind of armament was easy in the literal sense. I'm sure that for anyone with even a remote ability in making models would say that scratchbuilding is the most difficult part of making a model apart from a manufacturer's kit. What I think he meant to say is that for making a "Bombcat" the beauty (or ease) lies in the fact that the only work to be done is making the armament and not any modifications to the F-14 itself since JSI made a "late A" with all the correct exterior features that were only found on "A" models used for the bomb/strike mission.
I'm sure all the JSI F-14 owners here would love to see more armament choices for their big Cats.

perhaps, but yes i hope all this works out. but i don't think it will come at a low cost specially when i start doing custom schemes that are not avalible on the 1/18 market.

i'll be getting my tomcat tomorrow, i plan on masking it off tomorrow, and probably do the mk-82s. probably paint the plane thursday and post pics friday. i've decided to work up the scale so my next plane will be vf-1, not sure which year yet though, i'm wanting to do the 1991 uss ranger version but a set of decals for that version can cost upwards of $400, that and tko211 is doing the 1975 version for me as a personnal aircraft. but we'll see. we'll see which gets more interest. but i will say not all my repaints will be bombcats, but will look alot better than jsi's spotcat. time will only tell on how far i go with this, but i plan on doing every tomcat squadron, so if you got a favorite, it will be coming!

Actually I am working on turning My Tomcat into a VF-103 "BombCat"
I will be arming it with a couple of 2000lb LGB's and the Flir pod. I am working on the F110GE-400 afterburner cans as I write this. I will Post some pics when I get a little further along.

I am in the process of turning my F-14 A into a either VF-103 B or a Total Repaint D model. So far I have the latirn pod, the B model cans, JDAMs and I am working on the Chin Mount Tacan cameras. I just dred the total repaint
to make it the D model "Pukin Dogs"!
