Question on VF111 Miss Molly Decals
Can anyone tell me if Miss Molly would have retained any of the small maintenance instructions that are stenciled on the F14?
I have an absolutely awesome 3-panel color photo of Miss Molly from the April 1990 issue of Koku-Fan. The finish appears to have some gloss left to the finish and very subtle weathering. The shot is not close enough to detect any of the smaller maintenance stencils.
This is how I am going to finish my JSI Cat.
Any insight to this question would be so appreciated.
Regards,
Dean

If custom decals are going to be made, I think it's only right that they be made for the correct time period of this Tomcat. This model is of a LATE model F-14A (circa 2000+). I'd love this model even more if the paint scheme were accurate for the time period of the airframe. Some accurate and good paint schemes for this model are
VF-14 Final Cruise/ Final Cruise CAG (would be my pick)
VF-41 Final Cruise
VF-211 Final Cruise
VF-154 (a little over done but still accurate)
VF-101 2003 F-14A (my second pick)
VF-14 Final Cruise/ Final Cruise CAG (would be my pick)
VF-41 Final Cruise
VF-211 Final Cruise
VF-154 (a little over done but still accurate)
VF-101 2003 F-14A (my second pick)

We're almost a week behind the planned release date of Valentine's Day, but I'm happy to say that our first 1/18 F-14 sheet is now available on our website. This sheet is limited only 175 copies instead of the usual 500 print run.
This is the famous VF-84 Desert Storm Nose Art F-14A. It's an 8x10.5inch sheet and comes with all the markings seen on the actual jet, helmet markings and patches for the pilot and RIO.

Sheet is $30. All of our sheets are professionally printed silkscreen waterslide decals printed at Microscale. Please note that this sheet requires USPS Flat Rate Priority shipping for both US ($5.75) and International ($13.95)
We hope you guys approve and hopefully we're looking forward to more sheets in the near future!
thanks,
brian

Yeah man, that little stripe on top is Medium Gray FS35327 from Testors Model Master line.
The interesting thing about that particular Tomcat is that it had a nice clean looking paint scheme when the 1989 cruise started. by late in the cruise it had really bad blotchy paint spots all over it as the crews performed maintenance and replaced panels. Dark ghost gray was not in stock for them so they used what they had for corrosion protection - that bluish gray paint commonly seen on Tomcats later in the 2000' s but used on the Hornets during the late 80's. That decal sheet in 1/32 scale shows the later affects on that AJ201 Tomcat. Hopefully Brian included the story and pics on this 1/18 to let the modeler decide if he wants the clean look or the very dingy look. by the way, the cool looking chick painted on the nose wasn't added until later in the cruise, so the most correct way to portray that plane with the girl is dingy. Same thing with the CAG aircraft from VF-41 Black Aces jet since both squadrons were in competition over nose art on that cruise. Although the Black aces CAG plane wasn't so dingy looking as VF-84's..... Hope this helps.

Thanks BL!
I'm contemplating on how to do the scheme, possibly using gray filters brushed over the aircraft, panel lines and hitting some splotches with my airbrush.
I'm using Euro I gray for the fin flashing (per FTD's instruction sheet) and ordered three cans of Tamiya AS-16? Dark Ghost Gray and 10mm Tamiya Tape.
The 1986 VF-84 (no. 212?) two-toned low-vis is also stunning.
I'm REALLY looking forward to getting this beast done. Finally, a low-vis cat to show off

All the markings and fin cap are in 36081 Euro 1 Gray. The jet is overall 36320 Dark Ghost Gray.
Our first sheet is selling very well! Thank you to all that have supported this. We're hoping to get the next 2 back from printing soon. They'll both be later F-14A variants.
Thanks,
brian

Re: Decals for JSI 1/18 F-14 Tomcat
I am new to this site and would like to know if anyone makes 1/18 scale F-14 decals for VF-142 Ghostriders. I was in that squadron for 4 years and would like to get my new Tomcat looking like the ones I use to work on.

Brian,
now that Skyworks has released GE-F110 engine nozzles, it is possible to make a late F-14B out of this model! What are the chances we'll see some 1/18 F-14B decals in the future??? You have some good ones in 1/48 that could just be enlarged to 1/18
VF-32? VF-101 "Tomato"?, VF-102? VF-143?
