Pizzaguy,
I got the F14 stand today (Yeah!!!) My wife says thank you too as the bird has been upside down on the Dining room table since Christmas. After all the bad luck with my landing gear and my total disappointment with the product up to this point, your beautiful stand has brought some sunlight back into my day.
Thanks again.

PCOUGHRAN:

Your F-14 looks really impressive. Did you use strictly Gojoe or did you repaint yours?

After spending about 45 minutes GoJoing one of the fuel tanks, I noticed DeanKleines' post about the makeup pad repaint method.
I spent about 3.5 hours meticulously masking everything off then was about to pull out the airbrush but figured I'd give the makeup pad method a try and it worked great. Instead of just doing the spots I basically "redabbed" the entire plane, so there are no portions that have a different "sheen". I'm planning at some point to add weathering. Will probably spray a semi-gloss over it then use ProModeller's wash. It's easy and looks pretty good. You can also take it off real easy if you don't like the way it looks.
It looks so good with the factory finish I just decided to leave it for now.

PCOUGHRAN:

Thanks for the info. I'll post more questions about Deankleines method in the appropriate thread. His method sure looks like an affordable cure for Tomcat measles.

I got my F-14 stand today and it looks great! My only problem was trying to get the plane on it because the plane is so heavy and you have to be selective as to where you hold it. That has pretty much been the case with it since I got it.

Clearly Pizza Guy has been making these stands for a while so no doubt they are sturdy. But I am a little concerned about the weight of the plane being a factor. No doubt it is heavier than any other 1:18 scale plane. I hope it can handle that long term. My F-14 is on a very high shelf. If it comes down, it will quite literally be a crash and burn.

Build it Bigger

Post by pizzaguy » Thu May 27, 2010 6:20 am

A guy off ebay had seen my stands and asked if I could build it bigger. I asked how big? 18" tall. ???
This thing is HUGE!!
The dimensions are 18"H x 15"W x 12"D.

Don't make fun of the Spotty Cat. I have a plan. With everyone repainting theirs mine will be the only original left = $$$. I'll let you know in fourty years how that works out.

Thanks, I have some RBF covers up on Ebay.
Here's what I finally got done. Sax5thave is sending me a new pitot tube to get the cover made for it. Since I now have a F18 I was planing on making some covers for it, F16, Blackhawk, Huey, Apache and Cobra.

Could anyone tell me what the object is below the nose cone? Landing light or Radar? Just Curious.

had my f-14 stand sitting empty (limited space, the 'cat is still in the box) and was dusting my shelf last night. I have my f104 'george sitting out displayed on the landing gear and decided to try and use the stand with the -104. it works great! i was able to make some more space on my shelf. Pizzaguy, are you still building the stands?

I don't know how I missed these stands, I even commented early in the thread. I would be interested in an F-18, and F-16 stand.
