what are the Tamyia paint codes i need to do this repaint ? I am going to try this myself after looking it over today.

If the base color is molded goast grey then I would get 2000 grit sandpaper from an auto store or walmart. Start with that with back and forth motion (lightly). Go to 1000 or 600 if needed. 2000 will polish it a bit but so what in the end you can put a flat overcoat on it. Before you do that do the pannel lines. I do all my weathering with crushed soft pastels and an old 000 to 10x 0 paint brush. If you don't like it wipe it off. Some things I over coat some times I don't.

TKO I just went back and looked at your photos. WOW the masked over decals look more realistic than ever. I work with these in the Navy and they were always being touched up do to salt water corrosion.

I don't know if they make a Tamiya Gull Grey or if that would be a better match. The light grey AS-16 looks pretty close in Zach's photos.

These are custom made by tko211. I don't know if he plans on selling these separate from the repaint or not. He already put the upfront work in to load the marking data into the computer, so it would be just a matter of printing them out on vinyl or I guess he could consider emailing the data file to those interested for a fee and you could take it too a local print shop to print out the masks. Not sure how that would work as he would risk having people give his file/data away for free I guess.

AS-16 Light Gray (USAF) - its a very good match.

I also used the Light Sand color for the nose.. I forget the code but that is the name of it.

Did you also repaint the fuel tanks? I can't tell from your pictures, was just curious.

Yes, The tanks and the hard point attachments that hold the sparrows and sidewinders are all painted. they had the liver spots too. Those items will be painted as well in the F-14's I do.

Yes! that's the code for light sand.

I used both the 10 meter roll and the 18 meter. The 10 worked really good in many areas and I seemed to use that one quite a bit.

You know, I never really payed attention to the primer codes. I just bought the flat gray surface primer for plastics. (it's all my hobby store stocks so it all I have used.) It's fantastic stuff though!

I took a little different approach. Rather than trying to make the dots disappear I wanted to use them to blend in with the surrounding color. I used Tamiya skye grey diluted 50/50 with a dab of white in an airbrush (Iwata dual control). No masking, etc. Any overspray (which was almost none) was cleaned up with acrylic thinner on a cotton swab. Took all of 45 minutes and was really happy with the results. The slightly darker color blended with the the surrounded colors beautifully and really made the skin of the tomcat come alive with different subtle gradations of color. I wasn't wanting a fresh from the factory floor look though-I prefer a more weathered look.

did you mask the nose cone or did you brush paint it?

FOr those using Gojoe, it really wouldn't work on the nose cone because it will strip of the yellow somewhat as well.
