BBI WW2 Accesary Cards?

Post by gk5717 » Thu Aug 04, 2005 12:53 pm

Does anyone know if BBI has issued accessary cards for the WW2 figures as they have done for modern?
Those I would buy a bunch of.
As posted before, the figures are kinda lame in what you can do with them.

They have not - I agree you just can't get enough of the gear at around 8 bucks a figure...I'm still pissed the stupid parachutes not only jacked up the price point but undermine the playability. If most of these guys were "battle ready" it would be a lot easier buying more than a set, even at the high prices. Then you could justify it as about 5-6 for a cool figure and 2-3 bucks for extra gear. The way it is now after you buy a set it's hard to see additional figures worth 5-6 bucks each when there is so little you can do with them....diminishing returns type thing....

But as people have said, the gear is out of this world. The detail on the rifles is Dragon quality. Let's hope they still do the Infantry & Rangers. :D

Normal, the Bloomington store doesn't have them yet.

Found the bbi paratroopers today. The paint on them are terrible. They look as if a 4-year old painted them. The body is not as bad as the faces, but you have to be picking on most with it comes to the bodies. Their accessories are okay, some have more and better ones. I hope this isn't things to come from bbi. The Corsairs I saw were bad also, but the pilots looked good.

Got my set of Japanese soldiers today. Other than the fact that they seem to represent the starting line up for the Imperial Japanese Army basketball squad they're pretty good. A thousand uses for them.....unfortunately i only have six of them...heh..

You've got to get at least 5-6 more, then make some head swaps. It makes for a pretty decent squad of individual-looking Japanese troops! Be careful, however, as some of the heads fit better with some figures as opposed to others.

i'm not really a squad builder. I do vignettes rather. One group of 6 are going to be used for crewing a Japanese heavy machine gun i'm going to scratch build and a little 75mm howitzer i have made a long time ago but have had no crew for. The other six i will use in various little japanese soldier dioramas. 12 figs won't be enough but will do me for now.. :)

Picked up the bbi paras today on my lunch hour. Had not planned to get them, but having had a chance to look them over I changed my mind.

Sure, the accessories are nice, but I think the fugures themselves are actually quite good. Could do without the harnesses (which I will cut) or the life vests, but I can live with those things.

All in the eye of the beholder, though. My 13 year old son, who has a small mix of bbi and 21C figures, thinks the paras suck.

Now I'd really like to see what bbi could do with some Germans....

I'm with ya tinman. I liked them. The detail is great. I wish they would drill the feet though. I hate not being able to use my stands for them. I can see how having the harnesses and chutes could be a big turn off though.

Paras

Post by digger » Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:28 am

TRU in Times Square has no storage space so they receive a shipment everyday from a warehouse in Jersey. In turn, they have a "personal shopping service" whereby you can order/pay for something (by phone) and pick it up the NEXT DAY. Needless to say I ordered myself some bbi Paras yesterday (b/c I have no patience) and got them today.
I paid a dollar extra each but that's standard around here.

Review: Overall I can't imagine how someone would not be impressed with these figures - the detail and weathering is awesome. New head sculpts (but no thigh swivel), good hands. Paint on the forehead looks like hair overspray but could be dirt/sweat - no beef here. As said, if not for the limited use of these guys, they're great. Think about how nice the P-51 pilot is - these guys are nice like that.

The weapons are not quite Dragon, but good. The Tommy has loops for a strap. But be careful, they will not bend but break on you if you try to tweak them. I tried bending the 50. Cal belt and it is now crippled.

Packaging is good - some twist ties so get some nail clippers if you have a bunch of these guys.

I like Cleary, Ramirez, and the Medic (grenades, removable kit/belt mortar, pistol) even though he has no holster but everything else in the world.

The extra gear is already in the hands of my USMC & S1 guys, and the knit hat is on a Modern soldier. 8)

I know the chutes were to get us the extra gear (our fault) but maybe weapons packs would have been the way to do that. I'm still getting a bunch, and if the regular infantry ever arrive at $5 a piece watch out..... :D

paras

Post by digger » Sat Aug 06, 2005 7:31 pm

Update: They can sit down without the gear falling off! :D
I added a few pics to my 1/18 military folder. The problem is that when they sit their knees acquire a tan stripe as the plastic hinge is not painted :( Still, sitting means they can load up in a C-47.... 8) maybe one day....

I put some 21st paras next to them for reference. They each have their benefits....

On the extra gear - the stowage on the M4 is more detailed. The .50 Cal box does not have the same detail or writing on it this time...nothing major...they got so much right - including the backwards packs with straps against the body.

Sorry about that aferguson.

Weapons Specialist needed for bbi Paratroopers gear? I was wondering if anyone knows what version of the Bazooka that the two bbi paras came with? Also the mortar is a 60mm M2? Thanks for any help.

Yes. Accurate enough that you can tell. :)

As for the Bazooka I can take a photo but I am not sure of the model just yet.

I know a guy that works warehouse for TRU.
I ran into him the other day when I was there looking for the paratroopers.
They only had a few on the shelf, so I was just going to just get the medic.
I showed my friend the product and he said they had just got a case in.
So, he told me to meet in front of the warehouse door and he would bring it out. He brings it out and I open it up. I got to hand pick the 6 out of 12 I wanted! COOL! I have never had a connection before that I can do that with.
Those BBI Paratroopers are really sharp and come with awesome amount of equipment.

Haven't seen these yet - in fact the TRU I went to didn't even have any BBI figures! They had some vehicles, though. I'll have to check the other store.

Paratoopers

Post by 75th Ranger » Mon Aug 08, 2005 1:23 am

Well, i got me today ( Sunday) a full case of Paratroopers at TRU, they were just unloading a new truck and had a full case of 12 so i decided to buy them all!
to my surprise, they also unloaded right before me a full case of F-4 bbi corsair so i decided to buy the full case too! (it has 2 F-4 planes per case).
So everything looks pretty cool!!!!

The figures look really sharp and at least the ones i got show really little of the yellow lifevest; therefore you can send the troopers to the frontline no problem!

HOOAH!

bbi paras

Post by normandy » Mon Aug 08, 2005 4:40 am

I picked up 5 at tru on Sunday. To anyone thinking getting these paras, check the figure with the name on the package. When I got home I noticed that Lt.Lucas was infact Pvt.Ramirez. Seems someone at the factory mixed the figures. Other than that I like them, just can't see myself chucking these guys up in the air and running after them. :P

Avenging Eagles
by Ben Gear HQ/3 502 PIR

Bobbing low and flying high

Motors thunder through the sky

Prop blasts over strut and wing

Maddened demons howl and sing

And out of this, we are set to fall

With a handful of silk and God, that's all.

A small red light gleams at the door...

throws blood red pools on metal floor.

Beyond is space, vast dark and deep...
awake ye screaming ones from sleep!

For out of this you've got to fall,

With a handful of silk and God, that's all.

But our hearts beat high for the land we love,

and our courage comes from the one above.

When down from the clouds with our weapons of Hell,

we drop to avenge our friends who fell.

Thus all we need when we get the call,

is a handful of silk...and God...that's all.
