Digger,
I just got a few of the Zippy Burns Marine in 1/18 lot from Ebay.
So, I got some of the pilots and the modern figure + the Tiger.
I also didn't see the other deals until I had placed my order.
(I was just sure the Tiger would go away before I could place my order)

I see you did waste time putting them on Ebay...

Can you call them and have item added to your order, or email them or something??

New COED

Post by digger » Tue Aug 02, 2005 4:58 am

Guys, did they solve the problem of the M4's losing their .50 Cal mounts while still in the box by just getting rid of the .50 Cal altogether? Is it just me or is the top of the new M4 just flat?
The BoB M4 had great packaging to keep the mount safe, but must have been too expensive for the $23 tanks....unless I'm missing something? :?

digger:

I picked up a COED a couple of weeks ago. The .50 cal mount came packaged beneath the packing tray, if I recall correctly, so the buyer needs to set in place. I've left mine off so far, but may modify it to mount in front of the commander's hatch, drill a hole in the turret and set it there.

Finally the new stuff arrives in central Illinois. Marines, BoB, pilots, Patton figures, MkIV tank, 1 1/2 ton truck, Patton command car and the desert Hummer in 1/18. They also received the 32X playsets.

Well, today I decided to make the trek to Gurnee Mills, and I finally found the ('til now) mythological Wal-Mart XD display! :D

They had the Marines, Battle of the Bulge, Patton, and Pilot figures, as well as the Panzer IV, US and German Halftracks, and Walker. They also had about 4 Tropical Messerschmitts.

So I walked out with a complete set of Marines, BotB, and Patton figs, as well as the Panzer IV :) First time I've ever dropped over $100 on XD :P

Now, this store isn't too far from the Great Lakes Naval Base and it was the first time I'd ever been there, but with congestion on the highway I decided to get off at Touhy and check out the store there, which I do check semi-regularly and which usually just have a couple FW-190's. Sure enough, they had the same items, though they had the Walker and Haltracks in overstock by the Batman/FF figs, the Panzer in overstock over by die-cast/RC, and the figures on the back wall with the sidewalk chalk

Anyway these seem to have finally hit Wal-Marts around here, whether by a military base or not. Now I just need to find the command car, Japanese, etc etc etc

Normal, actually. The Bloomington store hasn't received them yet.

Northern Chicagoland Finds...

Post by parrish333 » Fri Aug 05, 2005 3:32 pm

fredricchio --- thanks for the heads up on the sighting at the Gurnee Mills & Touhy (Niles?) Wal-Marts! I've been waiting for the German Hanomag for quite some time.

Also, if you're in the area again, you should check the WM that's about ~3 miles west of Gurnee on Rollins Rd in Round Lake. That WM has had the Marines & BotB figs, Panzer IV, Dodge Truck, Command Car, US halftrack, and Walker Bulldog for some time (still no Japanese figs yet though). A lot of the vehicles have been selling out, but the figs are still on the racks.

I think vehicles got a bad rep as a slow seller in part because of the price point. The tanks were as much or even more than the planes, and while the AC was getting more detailed every release the armor was not really. Now that the armor is priced so fair - $23 for a Truck or halftrack - it is flying. I've heard of 10 COEDs vanishing rather quick, at $40 people thought twice but at $23 why wait for clearance? :D Even if they make no money on the armor it gives us a reason to but many more figs than we should 8)

This applies to bbi too - I was dying for the M1 and dropped the $50 as soon as it arrived but with lack of detail that was it until clearance (thanks Geofrey  ). The M4 however, was loaded with detail and gear; I bought 4 at full price they day they hit the Etailers.
Artillery too - I would need at least 5-6 of anything done right in 1:18.

Hey, I found a Panzer IV in Northern VA! I'm going to assume that someone returned one from somewhere else, because I've never seen one before, and there was only one. Also, the gun barrel was shattered, as they so often seem to be on that tank. I bought it anyway; I had the technology, I could rebuild it (and I did)!

No new 1:18 at that store ( but several of the new tanks, halftracks, and Japanese figures still left ). However, there were some new 32x items: all 4 playsets, and new Me-109 Night Fighters and P-47 Bubbletops. I bought 2 of the playsets, and after opening them up and playing with them a bit, I'm going to have to go back and buy the other two also!

Also, there were still plenty of 1:6 Hummers on the shelf; in fact, it didn't look like any had sold. I must admit, I was pretty disappointed in their appearance. I've seen others disparage them, and I have to agree. I know they need to hide the R/C guts , but not having any doors that open or windows that you can see through is pretty lame. Definitely looks like a toy in a way that the Stuart does not.

Post by CW4USARMY » Mon Aug 08, 2005 5:15 pm

Found the BBi paratroopers at Huntsville, AL toysrus today.
Found the the halftracks, german halftracks and japanese figs at
a Walmart next to Six Flags in Georgia over the weekend but not
here locally in Huntsville. Found the BOB and Patton figs at the
newest Walmart off of Memorial parkway north. Hope this helps some of you.

Wow, this one store just continues to surprise me! Today I found they had added the WWII trucks and command cars to their existing inventory of Shermans, German and US halftracks, and Bulldogs. Plus, they also had a couple of the modern US command cars. Still a couple dozen Japanese troops on the pegs as well. I keep hoping they'll bring in the marines...

Armor and figure lovers should take note: this store, during the entire restock, has not acquired a single 1/18 aircraft. Ground forces are definitely being given more than their fair shake here!

Just when I thought that I'd never see the PZ IV's here, I spotted 2 of them on the shelf. I really like the crew's uniforms. :D

Saw the 1:6 Sahara Jeep and the German Kettenrand at a Wal Mart in Fresno, Ca. today. There were one of each. Glad to see that the 21c movie tie-in products are hitting the shelves.
