IS BRAVO TEAM NOW AT TRU?

Post by digger » Fri Aug 21, 2009 4:30 pm

And is the LAV-25 (or Stryker) out? That is the word on another board but with no pics to back it up.

Yes its true, Unimax has rebranded the "Bravo Team" line as "Assault Forces" for TRU. Didn't see the LAV-25 but the Sherman is in stock along with the Deltas, SEALs, paratroopers, and the rest of the 1:32s and 1:48s.
Don't get too excited about the LAV-25 through, the troop compartment doesn't open.

Changed my original post now that I see there is indeed an LAV. The cammo and sculpting look good, but that is about it. The lack of a troop compartment is really a downer...

I agree, I wish they would have added the rear compartment. They did it for the Bradly and it was bigger than the LAV. It just needs some better paint apps and wouldnt be so bad.

On a side note, I hope this means that we will see the Tiger at retail instead of getting it from online retailers.

well, the good news is that 1/18 armour is getting a better distribution. But even chap mei can have opening troop compartments on their vehicles. No excuse that it shouldn't be on the LAV for $25.

The turret on the LAV looks funny to me. Maybe it's just the gun barrel?

That LAV is a POS. I never thought anything could make the bbi LAV look so good. The wheels may be the scariest part! That is by far the worst vehicle FOV has done to date in 1/18.

I am glad 1/18 fov is at TRU though - been waiting to pick up those new modern guys.

that's what i was thinking.....the FOV LAV looks so bad it almost looks like another vehicle....at least it could be considered something new!

Sad to see this decline in quality though, i was hoping they would be getting better, not worse. I gather the shermans are the same colour schemes as before?

I knew this was going to happen with FOV, I had a nice talk with them last year about their 1/18th line and the conversation I had left me feeling a bit pessimistic about their 1/18th bravo line. Unless FOV ups the detail level their 1/18th line will be history.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

you could take off the turret, which doesn't look all that good anyway, and make it into a LAV-M mortar variant. That way it wouldn't really matter as much that the rear doors don't open.

The only Sherman I saw there was the olive drab but on the back of the box art it had both versions from the Bravo Team line. The back of the box is still the same as the old one.

Think those rear doors could be cut and modified to open?

Not being able to put troops inside kinda limits the play value, but I guess at the price point they're just trying to compete with the other military toy junk TRU has to offer.

Fingers and toes crossed for us to see a FOV Tiger at TRU.

Saw this stuff at one of my local TRUs today. They had mostly the 1:32 items and 1:18 figures. No 1:18 vehicles. Same items that have been at Target. I did find some new repaints of FOV action grade 1:72 planes, in the proper FOV boxes.

You know, I actually didn't pay attention to the figure price, though I want to say they were in the $4.99 range... Again that is only a guess as I didn't pay attention to them because the FOV 1:72 planes caught my eye. There were no WWII figures - only the modern Special Ops and Paratrooper figures.

I don't know what the Chinese are using for glue. I bumped a newly packaged Bravo Team figure off the peg @ TRU today and the bubble separated from card.
Took a good look @ the LAV and was not impressed at all. I guess if you didn't have any 1/18 LAV in your collection you could get it. But the BBI version is much better.

I got a good look at the Bravo Team/Assault Force 1:18 LAV-25 while visiting a TRU on my lunch break - the first I've seen one in person. I so wanted to like the vehicle, but just cannot. It has a neat paint scheme and the opening turret hatches going for it and that is about it. The moulded-on jerry cans, fat gun, lack of rear compartment & hatches, and just the general overall toyishness of the vehicle pretty much killed it for me. It is nice to be getting some new 1:18 armor, but Unimax really is capable of doing a better job with it, even for that price point. I'll stick with my good old BBI LAV and perhaps get another from SmallJoes to repaint in a woodland scheme if I get the desire to.
