2 Questions - Where and Why?

Post by Razor17019 » Wed Jul 27, 2005 5:38 am

There is an auction on Ebay for 48 German 1/18 soldiers for 275.00 opening bid.
Where does one get 48 Germans Soldiers??
And why would anybody pay 275.00 for them??
Anybody else thing this is excessive?
This same seller I have seen him/her sell other XD items @ high dollar amounts.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :B:SS:US:1

What is the most you guys have paid for XD items??

I know l wouldn`t pay that much myself.

I think it`s partially due to the unknown state sometimes of 21st Ult Soldier XD line itself & some claim RARE & NO MORE IN PRODUCTION,so with statemenets like this & a mind set like this they hope that people who maybe are new or desperate will pay that sort of sum.

As said that`s what l believe & l must admit l`ve seen the above comments used in previous XD ebay items.

it's only about $5.50 per figure....not that bad, i've seen individual figures go for alot higher.

I have WAY more than 48 figures unopened still :D

Exactly - not bad for a full army 5 years after they were in stores. Less than retail as a matter of fact.

He's a board member who used to buy up people's collections - turned out to be a good investment.

Why? Keep a few and take the rest out and play with them!

I have bought up some collections too, but I pose them, alter them,
detail them, break them  ........abuse them  ........
basically enjoy them! 8) But, never pay too much for them!!!

Kinda like the old days when I built models, except the hard part is already done.
I just "personalize" them!

I myself have way more than 48 in my collection as well. Most of us stocked up when Toys used to us dropped to price to $2.50. I think this guy
is just trying to turn some of his collection into some cash. My humble opinion. :?

zonetoys: i make little permanent vignettes with my soldiers, rather than set up large scale battles and then take them down and set up another etc. So when the soldiers were readily available i bought loads of them so i would have them for years to come. I plan to make some into tank riders (when we finally get a stug), use others for gun crews (when we finally get a pak and 88mm et) and others i just hang onto for when i need them for new ideas i get.

I'll eventually run out and need more but my german soldier needs are satisfied for right now. :)

I also have more than 48 unopened carded figures including 3 sets of the Marines, but that will soon change since the Japanese troops are out now and they have someone to battle with. :D

I'm with you as far as getting LOTS of figures! But all of mine are mostly PTE figures...while I LOVE the looks of XD and would LOVE to spend around $40 for the 7 Marines...instead...I spend $40 and get 40 desert PTE soldiers! They make great dioramas!!

I've been looking for lots like this for a while. I never thought anyone would charge that much. :( If someone is going to buy 16 SS soldiers for $150, this isn't all that bad. Still, almost $300 all at one time is kind of unusual.

I was counting my figures that are loose and posed around my computer and basement. I have over 48 figures.
I was more amazed anyone would pay 275.00 at once.
A couple of bucks here, 10-20 for a set here - okay.
But 275.00?? That could buy alot of armor and planes!
Kudos for the seller to put them out there at that price and it's nice that Ebay is working for him.

I guess I am use to the trades between members on our board
And the good *cheap* deals I find on Ebay.

I too think the trades are a great way to turnover unused items
for other more interesting stuff!
I took a quick count of my WWII first series figures and I came
up with about 36 loose on a side (that's 72) not counting the 52
more recent carded figures that I have not opened yet! But vehicles
are my real passion! I don't want to start counting those!
Besides, I can't pull them all out at the same time if my wife is around!

I think the DEALS on Ebay are drying up! Primarily for the first series items!
Sometimes you can find a Auction Lot that goes for a good price! Especially if
you don't mind incomplete or broken! For dioramas,
that suits me fine!

Yep, Thanks Razor!
Picked up a new prop and nose cone for it today at "Hobbytown"
and going to rebuild part of the cockpit and canopy to make it look crashed!
