Flight of the Intruder

Post by cranedriver » Thu Aug 06, 2009 8:47 pm

Just revisited this old film from 1991 and love seeing the aircraft in action. I wish some of these aircraft would make their way into 1:18 land.

A-1 Skyraider
HH-3 "Jolly Green Giant"
A-7 Corsair
C-2 Greyhound
F-4 Phantom II
MiG-17
A-6A
A-6B

The A-6 in the movie were A-6E's dressed to the part of A's and B's.

The movie is as good as I remebered and awesome display by the Skyraiders bringing some smoke....

The mobile AA for the NVA was a strecth.

Okay so now for a poll and a diffucult one at that pick one aircraft of the lot that would find a special spot in your collection.

Also threw in the ground option for our non-aircraft members.

I really wanted the Skyraider model ever since Jason showed up pictures of their prototype model. Chances are looking slim to none of Admiral ever making the Skyraider, but wow what a huge cool model that would have been. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
Fred, really looking forward to the JSI 1/18th scale Grumman F-14 Tomcat.

Douglas Skyraider for me! Any paint scheme as long as it is a Skyraider!

F-4 will sell more units
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

The F-4 may sell better, who knows? I just wish Admiral would make their Skyraider.

it was a ch-53 wasn't it?

zsu's were not used by the nva....well a handful showed up in the final year of the war but saw virtually no combat. Like to have one regardless.

Intruder would be great.

Maybe Admiral will announce they're going to make them all.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

the skyraider would look awesome in USAF camo .... & navy colors !

I will put the A1 first, the F 4 close second and an A6E with a lot of bombs third !!!!

But the corsair is cool too ! and all theses planes can be either USAF or NAVY/Marines !

bring them all !

The A-10 should be on the list

Concerning Admiral's A-1 Skyraider, a few days ago I talked to my dealer about any 1/18 releases for 2009 and he said he hasn't heard from Admiral in a long time.

Wish the Hind or A-10 was there but with choices given, will go with the Jolly Green. Still not enough helicopters out there.

I voted for the A-1 Skyraider, but the F-4 would be a close second for me, then A-7 Corsair would follow.

Now, if you added the A-10 or the F-105 it would be much different!

I think we are all dying to see a A-10 at some point..... pretty good response so far to the poll. It just goes to show that there are a lot of popular models out there yet to be made.

I voted for the Jolly Green myself which was a hard choice for sure as the Skyraider and F-4 would get my money as well.

The HH-3 was a predecessor to the CH-53 not many were made but it was the aircraft featured in the movie.

Ther is a lot of diff between the two.

I have looked into doing this custom.

1. Front intake is diff.

2. The 17 fuse is fatter.

3. Rakes are diff in the wings

4. Air dams on wings diff.

5. Rudder is diff

6. Rear stab is diff.

7. I think that the arament is diff but I am not sure.

They used the same engine though.

Me -109 has been wanting me forever to do this mod and there are a few other guys who have been wanting me as well to .

Sorry for stealing your post Crane Man

Sounds like they went the way of 21c. Even if they are not dead, given their current pace of operations, there would be now way they could compete with JSI.

Either the A-7 or F-4 would be awsome, the rest just neat. Either way I would get em all. How about a F-86D Sabredog? That would be a easy mod I would think, but yet distinctive enough to look very different from the conventional sabres. Although maybe not the most practical for size but one I would cherrish above all others is a SR-71. Rob, if your out there, I know you could do it.
