Top five most rare

Post by sledgehammer » Sun Jul 19, 2009 10:41 am

A question that collectors of this hobby all want too know. What was 21st Century's most top 5 rarest 1:18 aircraft of all time ? The P-51 Tendor Terror does not count either, thats a given. And nooo its not the 109E nightfighter, contrary too what BadCat said.

Most top rated rarest is a mighty lofty term- Ones that hit the box store shelves around here Very Rarely are as follows-
Kepford corsair (1st & 2nd)
Dday spit
Mrs Bunnie P-51
Fw190d9 blue/black 12
ME-109 Galland

Almost all the above I just found 1 or 2 of and didn't see no mo- the black 109 nightfighters stayed around so long that the RC cycles with the skeleton riders and green snoop dog RC caddies were welcomed with opened arms by the stocking class at the local Wmts- Suddenly the black 109s were no more...

The Blue Angels is BBI, but I hear you on it being rare. What about helicopters, hard to find some of the 21st Huey paint schemes these days (sharkmouth comes to mind) and the Cobra camo version.

Oops! That what I get for not reading carefully. In that case I have to add the Spinach 109. The Sharkmouth Huey is probably the sixth rarest aircraft though.

Just my two cents and worth even less!

Now I feel good...

Many have listed the Rall 109 and Galland 109E as being rare. I've got both  Rall's plane showed up at my hobby town three years ago - and I couldn't pass it up. I got Galland discounted in 2005 as part of Badcat's Hurricane Katrina sale.

However, in no particular order, my list would be:

D-Day Spitfire
Spinach ME-109E
QVC P-38 "Sharkmouth"
Priller FW-190D9
S1 Pappy's Corsair

There are several others that I could count as rare, many of which are BBI F-18s. Then there are the foreign Australian schemes for the BBI F-18 and P-51.

REALLY CLOSE-

1. Spinache 109
2. QVC P-38 (louise)
3. Invasion Spit
4. P-51D Laura Michelle (old blue nose)
5. FW-190D-9 (europe exclusive)

Non full production planes (in the marketplace) in terms rarity.

1. That damn Me-109 tan with red tail
2. Tender Terror

Panes in concept (not in the hands of the marketplace)

1. A-10
2. Zero (clipped wings)

Zach, while I trust you know the numbers better than the rest, I disagree on your top 5. Particularly that first Blue Nose - they were everywhere for a while and went for nothing even years after release. Getting a winter 109 is surely tougher than getting a LM.

When you say got away from the company, what does that mean?? I know that particular 109E was never put in production, wondering why some do go and others do not.
