Quad .50 ground support weapons system

It looks like I will have a bunch of quad .50s laying around. So I think that I may put them to work.

I was thinking of making some vignets with Navy guys tending the quads. Maybe I can talk to Fritz to see if he is up to making the figures.

Let me know if there is interest.

I was wondering what you where going to do with all those extra quad .50's you where going to have.

I was thinking just what other vehicles the quad .50 might have been mounted on.

I have seen one on a duece and 1/2 and I have seen pics of the dual .50's mounted on PBR's (ummm that would be nice a PBR

).

If nothing else maybe mount one in the back of the 21st Century Dodge weapons truck. Might look cool but not sure if accurate.

I don't guess they ever mounted one on a Sherman.

while quad 50's were tested on navy ships, it was pretty rare. I believe only one carrier, the Lexington had them. Not sure if other navy ships carried them at all. They were just seen as not having sufficient long range stopping power to bother with. 20mm's and 40mm's were preferred.

They used them as ground support in Nam . Here is a 1/35 model devoid of wheels which they used alot.

It looks like the N'am version had a different flash suppreser and they used the stock .50 cal amo cans. But the rounded ones look cooler. This is a mod that can be done any interest ?

I could do shields square and frame devoid of wheels . A finished (:evil: ? ) complete gun pod.

I am still tryin to chase down a pic of one of these mounted on a M113.

I have seen pics so far of this quad .50 mounted on dump trucks to duece and a half's. There are some hellious looking gun trucks from the Vietnam era with these bad boys mounted in the back.

Let me do a little more research PH and I will be in touch.

Quick question when you pull one of these off the trailer or half-track what is the base like?? Does the base swivel or does the quad swivel off a hole in the deck on the half track or trailer??

More or less a picture of the base would help.

I took mine off the half track just by twisting and pulling. It has 2 tabs just like q 1/35 tank with removable turret. Just twist and pull. No glue or screws. I am not sure of the trailer.

It would be cool to see one on a M-113

My thoughts exactly. I have a M113 pretty much ready to go. I am just on the fence because I have a 106mm recoiless rifle I can mount on it (have since actual pics of this) but I think the .50 cal quad would look bada$$.

Flamethrower
Gatlin Gun

The quad mounted on the small two wheel trailer was used from WW2 up to VN.

How could you go wrong? The only drawback would be those tiny wheels, so just make the trailer, forget the wheels.

The big duece & a half gun trucks would be great, but who could pay you enough for you to make an entire truck........ that just won't work.

Actualy that is what I was planning to do.

They looked like they took the wheels off and had the bare frame sitting on the ground.

Anybody interested in this mod ?

Actually, the quad on the small trailer kept the wheels on when using the quad from a fixed position, the tiny wheels folded under the trailer. If the quad was in a permanent location like on a ship, the trailer would be removed.

No big thing to avoid the hassle of moulding the tiny wheels. I'd be in line for a a quad on a trailer, wheels or not.

There seems to be 2 guys who would want this. Is there any more guys who would like to have this gun mount ?

I am not sure that I will make the wheels to go with it. Just the base on the ground like they used it in service.

If I get 3 other guys to pony up I will go ahead and get the 1/35 scale kit.

I am thinking that this would cost about $30- $50.

Not too bad for a new gun platform in 1/18 scale
