Not sure but maybe it was just until CC is over so not to ruin 21st's party. Not the kind of thing WM could do but BC I'm sure.
Then again, that could just be me hoping they show up on the sites next week. :?

I saw a number of the Japanese and USMC figures at a VA Beach Wal-Mart today. IMO the Japanese figs heads are too small. I didn't get any so there's plenty left for anyone nearby. All less than $5 each.

I don't want to start a turf war but I've heard of some tangos spotted in central Florida. New vehicles, Japanese and new 1/6. :D

6 Walmarts in my area...not a single figure on the shelf...ANYWHERE!! AND when I tried to ask a clerk about the XD figures...I still get that 'deer in the headlights' look...All I can do is sit here and and dream...and drool about all of you who can walk into those stores and find XD on the shelves... :(

Even though our Walmarts haven't got SQUAT!!!!! I finally got my ComicCon 6-pack of infantry. Only been able to open a couple, but the one thing I was most impressed with was to give Sgt. Kudo a helmet, so he doesn't always have to have the headband showing. Good job on the accesories, 21C.

Japanese Review

Post by digger » Wed Jul 20, 2005 1:37 pm

Although I have not gotten my full Army yet, thanks to a fellow board member I have gotten my hands on a set of the Japanese. Here’s a nit-picky review for those that care for that sort of thing – others can skip it and just know that they’re pretty damn sweet.

The articulation is the best yet, though not PTE by any means. Shoulder socket and swivel above the knee are the main difference. They are the sturdiest XD ever, and are more plastic than rubbery like the Marines. They can crouch and shoot so much better than the USMC. They have no markings (this may be accurate) but the uniforms are well done with folds & creases that will allow you to weather them if you want.

Packaging: my beef here was no picture of the figure from behind on the back of the card like we had with the Paras. This allowed you to see where everything should go – and there is a LOT of gear – although it can be deciphered pretty easy. Kids might get frustrated……(but we know these are not for them, hehe).
Also there are twist ties – these figures were meant for retail. Even some of the cool gear is twist tied so not to be boosted. :?

The figures:
The Lt.’s sword does not go in the sheeth, which would have been cool, but he is better than I expected overall. The Machine Gunner comes with ALL the cool gear, which should have been spread around a bit. He’s obviously a great figure but the Private with the sub-machine gun is my favorite thanks to a cool weapon, ‘normal’ facial expression, and overall appearance. The rifle with bayonet is lacking detail, and the guy with the mortar has no other weapon. :? But he does have special boots. 8) I can see the mortar guy warming pegs if only because he is so limited. I would say the same of the Lt. but the whole sword thing goes a long way.

Overall, a few hiccups but VERY NICE. Possibly best figures yet imo, in a tight race with BoB Germans which still kick ass. I can’t wait to line up a few full squads.
:D

Glad to hear these are nice figures. Its good that 21c went ahead with them. My plan is to obtain a full set, eventually!

I'm just puzzled as to why some Wal Marts only on the east coast get these figures while others in all the other parts of the country do not. It is pretty safe to say that the new armor repaints (the M-41, Halftracks, & Sherman) have gotten to many stores across the country, but why then are the Japanese figures seeing such limited distribution?

I hope they show up at the small retailers very soon!

japanese

Post by 75th Ranger » Wed Jul 20, 2005 9:35 pm

The japanese figures:
As you can see in my previous "Dizzy" post, I already modified and customized my Japanese figures, I have a new Lt. Kudo, and a Wanabe machinegunner and an Akasu mortar man, i switched them around.
the only draw back is that they do break like the bbi figures sometimes. I already got my first casualty, as a matter of fact "dizzy" took care of that poor bastard aand bayonet him to death, but nothing a little glue wont seal permantly...the upper leg part, feet, and hands seem to be the most fragiles right now.
Anyways take care,

Found Japs at WM in Fenton

Post by gk5717 » Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:44 am

This WalMart never has anything, but I was in the area and stopped buy. They must have just put a couple of boxes out and I bought all on the racks. I then enquired if they had more in the back. She then brought out 2 more boxes at which time I cherry picked just the rifleman from them.
All in all a day that reminded me of finding new XD at TRU when this series first started 5 years ago.

I hope someone posts them soon. Save my sanity having to check all the Walmarts around here. Very surprised none of the sites have posted a preorder.

Cool

Post by digger » Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:08 pm

WOW - Just realized that the Japanese steel helmet fits over the field cap and can be worn together as in the field! :D
The neck sunguard looks cool with the helmet. 8)
These guys have good potential for turning 6 guys into about 20 distinct soldiers pretty easy. Very cool. :)

Haven't seen anyone post this, but the new BBi paratroopers are at Toys R Us. $6.99 each, they only had 4 of the 6 there. I bought a couple, but only opened one so far. The harnesses are cast on, so they don't come off. It includes instructions to take the parachute off, and fold the harness under the closed chute backpack (the one I opened - the medic - has both a closed chute backpack and open chute backpack). Otherwise, the standard BBi figure. Don't get a medic with mortar, rounds, grenade, and pistol, but his buddies will benefit from his toys. Also, with the packs and such, don't think you'll be able to use these guys for diorammas after they've parachuted in. But, considering I never found the Dusty Trails guys, glad I found these. Now, need to go outside my office and try him out
