Wow, that's a neat trainer there. 8)

What did you use for the canopy? I thought you’d actually vacuformed the pieces, but, upon closer inspection, they seem to be a little too translucent compared to the BBI original or other vacuformed canopies I've seen in the customs' threads (there’s even a sort of grainy texture in the pics).

Anyway, real cool.
Yeah the entire Bbi greenhouse was used for this custom, I only vacuformed the center section aft of the front seat. I wanted a particular thickness and the material I used didn't come out perfect but it does look better in the flesh than in my lousy pics. Alot of Bbi Zero canopies I've found have fogged canopies. I built many a Rufe and it's been about 60/40 from clear canopies to fogged ones. The Koniouke Zero's all seem to have nice clear canopies though.

I see the pro attempted to lengthen the fuse as evident from the obvious spliced section. His example could use some dub wheels to go with the lowrider aft cockpit...

Pa Deuce wrote:what really finishes it is that the aileron horns are still backwards... retains that BBI authenticity
For real, to this day they're still backwards on all of them, I expect the Sakai to be the same way. Generally they pop out pretty easy though so can turn'em around. So many details were overlooked that could've helped throw off the obvious errors, cutting the wheel covers off and leaving the struts covered for example, doing away with the spinner, etc. small things that oh who am I kidding, the thing is as said an abomination. I personally don't mind the attempt, doesn't affect me one way or the other, the gloating write up is what I find annoying..

But if he would have painted it orange made a 2 seater rather than a 3 seater and call it is a trainer it would not have been that bad off.

Actualy they did. Here is what I came up when I googled Japanese Zero trainer. So he blew it .

I applaud the attempt on the "Kate" but the results of his efforts fall far short of what I would consider professional quality IMO. My first reaction was that of a rushed project to make a "buck" instead of an "kate".

Note to self: Type bogus compliment with my other ebay id about the monstrocity I've carved up to hopefullly entice at least one bid...

Question & Answer Answered On

Q: Sir, You have done it AGAIN!!!!! Outstanding work. Jun-06-09
A: Thank you very much I appreciate the kind word.

Q: Is this an accurate representation? Geoff Jun-04-09
A: Hi, If I understand your question correctly you are asking if my Kate is perfect to scale? yes and no Yes in the fact that it is longer than a 1/18 zero and this is to scale. No in the fact that the kate's wingspan was slightly longer than the zero's and I did not alter the 1/18 zeros wing. I did not make custom wings for this model as the correct length would only come out to be around an inch wider or 1/2 an inch per wing. Not a project stopper in my book as I know that there will never be a 1/18 Kate made, nor will I make another. I assure you that even hanging up next to a Zero the Kate appears perfect. If you are the winning bidder I guarantee you will be very satisfied. Thank you

Wow, hard to read without massive vomiting. Think he better re-evaluate his "specs"... Yep, you've done it again, totally ruined 2 good airplanes for this "Kate-astrophe"..

I guess the average ebay buyer is too simple to Google image the airplane and compare for themselves? So many things give it away.

C'mon, the tail doesn't match at all!

Greetings

This is a good comparison

This is a Kate replica that flies to the East Coast airshows. It was one of the planes they built from Tora Tora Tora. It is a converted BT-13. This looks far more realistic than what that guy is showing. I've seen this plane up close and it looks pretty decent for a mock up. There is also a Val mockup that goes to the airshows in the East as well.

You think he makes the rounds here, or no bids at that price?

He might be able to get away with a trainer, but not a Kate.
