I remmeber the CIAs for $10 at Walmart stacked to the ceiling.

I guess that is 4 guys so far. I searched e-bay and they have a couple of " D "s in China but my local hobby shop has a 1/35 Dragon kit for $46.

Here it is The gun looks like what you guys are talking about.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Dragon-3538-1-35-UH ... .m20.l1116

It looks like the kit has the gun mount in it. The gun mount does not look that hard to do and it uses a M-60 of which I have a mould of already.

I guess that would be the short cut rather than doing the whole mod clam shell.

I don't know if anyone knows this for sure, but every Vet I talk to about Hueys in Nam, they say that most of the M60s were on bungee cords. If they did get one with the M23 armament mount they removed them, because they would loose range of fire with it.

Most of the Vets told me that the guys didn't like the M23 armament mount because they couldn't lend aid to the other side of the craft if needed. When on the bungee cords, the guys could step out on the skids and fire underneath the aircraft. From what I have been told most door gunners would do it too.

On a side note is the M23 armament mount wasn't used on the C models. If you were going to make a kit for the 21st C Huey I would go with the Sagami mount. Which was a field type mod. It used the M156 multi-armament mount to attach a swing arm.

Here is a good picture of the Sagami mount on a B/C model:

Thank you B-29.

Here is the link to the thread in the Customs section of the forum I started almost two years ago when I began this custom. Shows how much time I get to spend working on my customs.... .

viewtopic.php?t=6624

Of course Pickelhaube could make this mod alot easier and more accurate for those that might want it than what I went through... :D

In reference to what Momaw Nadon was saying, the bungee cord system for door gunners in B and C model Hueys was the most used. It did allow for a greater range of movement and area of fire by the door gunner. The door gunner could step out on the skids or even the rocket pods and cover beneath the aircraft and behind the aircraft (important when departing an LZ or in the departing phase of a gun run).

Bird Dog. That Huey is sweet.

Maybe some day I will have one of my own.

But I would pass on a hundred Hueys to get just one Hind in 1/18 scale.

Did they do any kind of bungee aparatous for the 21st Huey ?

If not that would be the way to go would it not ? M-60s , black rubber bands belt and amo can.

I can't find any good pics on the Sagami mount.

The Sagami was a field mod, so there's some leeway, i would think.

Were does it start ? The round disk part or the swing arm ? n

If the disk what does that attach to ?

Or the piece with the 2 holes in it. Is that a part or does the Sagami swing arm attach to that ?

The piece with the two holes and drum is the weapons pylon that practically all the armament packages of the C models hung from. The sagami is the swing arm just passed those two holes.

You really don't even need the Huey to do it, just the pylon.

So , does the drum and the part with two holes have to be made or does it come with the 21st Huey?

Or the pintel and actual swing arm is the part that you guys want ?

All you have to make is the pintle and swing arm, unless they're using a slick, then those guys will need the entire pylon package.

The pylon comes with the 21st C Huey, so if you were going to do this mod, you need that piece. I would think that someone could help you out on one here.

All you need to make would be someway to attach the swing arm to the pylon. Also to keep in mine is that the piece the M60 mounts to is adjustable up and down. That was done to account for the different weapons systems that would be used.

I would say just make what is circled in red in this picture

Well it can be done. Not that big of a deal either. It would be tough to make it levitate but using different height tubing will solve that problem. Switch it for this or that.

I think that I can use the pic to make it. Having one in 1/32 or 1/35 scale would be easier to work off of. If I had the drum off of the 21st Huey I could copy that and make the Sagami swing arm to go with it. Does anybody know if the drum pops off easy ?

I have that piece with the rocket pods attached I can send you on loan, PH.
I took them off a huey I sold. Once side slide off easy the other one was like the devil to pull off. They slide from underneath the body of the huey.

Thanks to Razor I got the pods super fast. I think that this add on will be on the simple side. Fingers crossed.

Here is what you want.

Image

Here is what you got

Image

I can make a hinge to fit on the mount just right of the 2 hole arm.

The modeler can drill it out and mine can slide in.

Does the Huey come with twin M-60s or will I have to make them as well?

Give me a show of hands of the guys who would want this.

PH,
Don't know if you've heard of this site but they have some 1/18 weapons. They have an M60 -E3 that might work. Just take off the carrying handle and front grip. for $.99 each this may be a no hassle approach.

Just a suggestion.

I don't think it will be a big hassle for him to make the M60s. He's already made the correct version of the M60 when he made the M113 shield kits.

Let us know what the cost will be for this when you get farther along or have enough guys that want to participate.

Hey Guys,

I think I can build the sagami from the pics but I need to have some info.

1. Does the mounting ( the piece with 2 holes ) stop even with the door ?
2. How wide is the open door area ?
3. How tall is the open door area?

It looks like the gun sitting on the pintel is centered on the door.
