21C and what we could/should have had. Here is the list.

I know that there are similar posts like this, but I wanted to give everyone a photo look and description of what we missed out on from 21C.
(-Perhaps much more as they competed with other 1:18 scale companies and those companies decided to not make their products for fear of losing a profit.)
Here is a list of all of the 1:18 scale militaria things that 21C has either teased us with in terms of making a mock up to produce or have canceled all-together All of which are new products only and not repaints. I believe that I have the full list that we know of. There are 16 items total:
Modern:
A-10 Warthog
Vietnam
PBR (Patrol Boat River)
Hooch
Watch Tower
-Not Shown-
M551 Sheridan
M38A1 Jeep w/ 105 Recoilless Rifle
M113 w/ Turret
AH-6 Little Bird
F-4 Phantom II
Mig 21 Fishbed
WWII
B-25 Mitchell
Ruins
Bridge
Government Building
King Tiger
A6M Zero

Ah, all those neat things we could have had... I am most disappointed about the B-25, but that would have been very ambitious and considering 21c's track record with QC issues, probably an expensive disaster.
Still, there is no use wishing for something I can't have. I've got to concentrate on getting what little is left of 21c products

i met many of the 21C managment folks and had lunch with jim once and m.c. many times. they tried to do everthing and nothing at the same time. to many different visions. they never listened to retailers.
every year M.C asked what we wanted. i would say T-34,trucks,jeeps or 1/32 P-38. but every year nothing. they finally did a German truck and it sold like crazy but they didnt go into full production. so they had a limited release. very poorly run company in my opinion

It's not just the 1:18 stuff that never made it out the door. There was a ton of 1:6 stuff that got shelved or canceled for one reason or another. And the real shame of it is that they dropped out of the 1:6 market (except for the occasional carded weapon set) just when their 1:6 offerings were getting really good. Some of the last 1:6 stuff they produced is highly sought after. I've been searching for quite some time for the carded Russian Paratrooper set that they released in very limited numbers. I've never understood the mentality of this company. Maybe they didn't think they could compete with companies like Dragon and BBI but they didn't have to drop out of 1:6 almost completely. They were excellent at making carded uniform sets and they could have easily continued to do so.
And to get this post back on 1:18 topic, why in the world did they never rerelease the 1:18 FJ figures that people have been asking for for years? BTW for anyone interested in seeing some of the 1:18 and 1:6 stuff they had planned check out the 21C pages from this coverage of Toy Fair 2003: http://www.toymania.com/toyshows/tf2003/index.shtml

Good stuff to think about. I really wish we got that bridge, those buildings, and the recoilless jeep... All great stuff.
But time rolls on and good things come in the future guys. no sense dwelling on the past guys. Something good will come along down the road I'm sure. I keep hoping some small companies I'm friendly with give figures a shot.
It may happen, ya never know.

No, we haven't forgotten about Admiral Toys, BBI or any other new company that may come out of this.Jay wrote:Have you guys forgotten about Admiral Toys or what?
I think we are just having a wake at the death of an old friend.
What could have been. What was accomplished. Funny stories.
Just sad to see 21st Century go.

.....perhaps it's because us Pacific folk never really saw 21st on a daily basis ie in toy / department stores. So the impact is like losing a distant cousin instead of a close family member. I shall however turn my headlights on and join the procession.

the bucket list
in the very early days they pictured a tan Kubelwagen with a roof. The one item in this list I was hanging most out for was that great looking bridge. I guess there is a mold out there for this, that will never see the light of day, what a pity.

Actually I'd wager much of that stuff never had molds made... Molds are the most expensive piece of the puzzle, and usually once they're made that's a good sign that the item will be produced to some capacity to return what ever they can on the investment.
I'd be willing to bet the playsets never had molds, the PBR, etc. Possibly even the King Tiger regardless of rumors and such. Much of that stuff may only exist in one-off prototypes.
