Another option would be to make a M36 90mm turret for the BBI Sherman to make a M36B1 TD.

* Custom conversion kits ?

Post by MG-42 » Thu Jan 01, 2009 11:13 am

* So whad'ya gonna do now Matt ? ... The
Grant & Firefly are @ a tie .

* I'd do both the Firefly turret conversion & the M-10 TD conversion kit for starters to pacify everybody
and put the Grant on the back-burner for DAK stuff later on ...............
since there ain't a big demand for it anyway.

* My 2-¢ents worth ! ! !

Hey Mitch,

I think that I will defenately do the Firefly turret. I would like to do all of them but this will take the course of at least 6 months to do. I would like to have a Lee and the M-10 but I think that the M-10 may be a lot more popular. To bad I can't change the poll.

The M4A1 may not be as popular but there is somewwhat of a demand for that out side of the board.

So the Firefly and the M-10 will be put on the ASAP list. After I get done with the V-! dolly and the quad flak 38. Which will be the next project. There seems to be a lot of interest in the flak gun. I also want to do another panzer IV conversion but nothing has been done the American armor as far ascustomizing so I think that it may be do. Another thing that is do is Japanese armor. But a whole tank custom is daunting because of the tracks. Those pesky tracks have held me back on a lot of projects. But I think that I may have to bite the bullet on that and just do it.

The tracks themselves are about 3 days worth of work to make the master mold them and cast them and mold them again. I was talking to my wife about the XD developement. Depending on the project it take a week to a month to get a master made. This time is never recouped. Can anyone imagine working on something for that long and not getting paid for it? Well that is what happens unless you can get someone to finance this. The toy manufactorers have craftsmen who do this. And some companies have 3 axes computur routers that can make parts. Big money is paid for both of those. I do mine for free with the hope of selling my stuff at the right price to make it profitable.

I guess I have rambled on enough but all of this is reality . If work was better I probably would not be doing this XD custom stuff. But work IS slow and I have a lot of time on my hands and I love to build things.

OK Guys,

I was all set to do the Sdkfz 222 . I have a nucleous of 5 guys who want it and most of them gave me a deposit already. BUT all of them said that they would rather have the M-10 first !!!

OK , no problem. I have my model and prints ready to go. Last nite I started on the gun breach. I could have it done by Sat.
Today I have to work on my regular job and it looks like I will be busy all next week with it. This is a real good thing because things are getting tight with the finances.

Because of this I am going to throw another deal out to you guys. Crane Driver jumped on the quad flak 38 and he will get the first one when production starts.

WHOMEVER SENDS ME A DRAGON , ITLAERIE OR TAMAIAYA 1/35 FIREFLY KIT WILL RECIEVE THE FIRST PRODUCTION FIREFLY TURRET KIT. I want to build this with the M-10 kit . Aferguson is right the Firefly would be more affordable than the full M-10 kit. A Suadron / Signal book or the like would help out as well.

Any who are interested in this deal let me know. The first one to come through will get it.

I'm down with an M-10 and a firefly. Any idea on cost. Are you using the FOV body for sure? If so I'll go pick a few up

Not sure of the cost at this time.. But the build will be a major one for the M-10. I will make a new deck, new turret and interior w/ gun. I will use the FOV tank as the base. My guess would be in the $200 range. The Hun sold his Jagdpanther for this and the M-10 project is 3 times the build as that one. So if I can keep it in that range it will be a bargain. I know , I know it is kind of pricey . BUT IT WILL BE A WHOLE NEW PIECE OF ARMOR. :D

I am told that the FOV will not work for the Firefly. But I was just going to do the turret and gun. Maybe a few gas caps and the cover for the bow gun. This will probably be a third to half the price of the M-10 build. Anybody up for the Firefly kit ? You will get the build for the trade. :wink:

If you did some of this stuff in 1/32(including the M10) I'd be in, but unfortunately I don't think you venture into that realm.

Hey Panzer Arm,

Mg 42 is right I don't do 1/32. It it too small :shock: I can't see it. if it weren't for my swing arm magnafier I couldn't scale off of the 1/35 to do my work.

Last call for the Firefly deal. This is the chance for somebody to get the Firefly custom at a fraction of the cost.

Crain Driver will get his Flak 38 at half the cost of the custom. If nobody commits I will order one on Monday. I wanted to both of these customs together.
