New Power Team Tank

Post by tankduel » Thu Dec 25, 2008 4:41 pm

I came across some new Power Team Elite items today including a new tank, painted this time, called 'Main Battle Tank' the turret looked like a revised PTE 'Combat Tank' (M1) but the rest looked like a decent model of a T-72 variant. Hope this is not old news.

In New Zealand
It's listed here as a Chinese Type 96

Might have to go back and buy it now, the SU 27 was there too and I also recall seeing a new version of the RIB with no seats and a searchlight at the rear.

after looking at comparison pics between the tank and the fov m2 i'd say the tank is pretty close to scale. It's a good sized tank but smaller than an abrams. Detailing's not bad either.....only the paint job is off. Not really useful as a t-72 or 80 unless you're very forgiving but it is a pretty reasonable looking model of a chinese type 96.

OK, thanks, I bought one and it's quite large, tank length 400mm , total length 500mm , width 185mm.

Looks great! Thanks for the pictures!! Hope it makes it here by next Christmas. Another good thing too is that this won't be costing around $80 to $100!!

I had to disable my popup blocker to view the full size photos.

Pretty nice tank, if I ever see it in my neck of the woods ... :D

got the pics working......it does look pretty nice, for what it is and the cost etc.

Looks very much 1/18, i would say the gun barrel is a bit short, otherwise it's virtually right on. Did it come with a chinese looking tank commander figure?

While a chinese type 96 doesn't stir my blood, it's worth getting as just an interesting piece of armour.

upon further inspection this appears to be a chinese type 99 tank, not the type 96 as related in several joe threads. They look similar but the bow is the give away. The turret is not quite the right shape, but not bad. Still good size wise, probably a hair small.

Would be a simple mod to add the commonly seen arrow shaped armour to the front of the turret.

ok, upon further, further inspection (get the feeling i haven't got much to do this morning?) this is modifiable into a T-80. The hull is the right size and pretty much right shape, although some details are off. The turret isn't great but you could cake it in reactive armour bricks to hide the discrepencies in shape. The side skirts could be trimmed back to remove the scallops and leave a straight edged skirting.

Not sure if iraqi t-80's used reactive armour but the russians sure did/do so it would make a great russian tank for sure. Somewhat more interesting in my mind, than a chinese tank.

i just learned that iraq didn't have any T-80 tanks at all. This is a great surprise to me.

ok, now to hope that this makes it to the US some time in the next 3 years. The only PTE I saw this year was the same as was out in 2007, so a refresh of the US selection is overdue...

Do you think the front hull deck is more like a type 98 than a 99 ?

The figures are just regular PTE 'peacekeepers'

the type 98 and 99 are pretty much the same thing. after doing some more reading i think the front end looks more like a type 98/99 than it does a type 96. Most type 99's have reactive armour on the front so it looks different than the type 98, which is usually seen without it.

It also looks more like a T-72 front end than a T-80. Here's the front of a T-72:

so it would probably be better converted to a T-72 than a T-80. Again the turret is completely wrong but you can either live with it, cover it in reactive armour bricks or try to make a new one. The road wheels have the wrong spacing for either the T-72 or T-80 but that's fairly minor. And the skirts can be trimmed for either tank.

Thanks for the pics Tankduel. I'd love one of these now, but alas I don't know we'll see this in the states or not. Doesn't seem likely. I'd gladly fork over for one or two though.
