Mighty Mustang: Just to add my two cents (so who asked?): P-51's excellent pictures say it all concerning the size of the P-47, but I might add that Tarheel Hal (the Lonestar Flight Museum's P-47D) made a pit stop last year at the Hot Springs airport. It was a truly immense airplane. I recognized that giant four-bladed prop as I was whizzing by the airfield and pulled in for a looksee. Spitfire pilots used to tease P-47 pilots, saying if a German plane attacked them they could run around the fuselage dodging bullets! :)
Go Starbuck!

There good reason why they called it "The Jug".
