New BBI P-51 Repaints
New BBI P-51 Repaints
If anyone has already reported this I apologize. Dirk Unterberg has posted a nice side view of "Cripes-A-Mighty", one of the two new BBI P-51D repaints. Looks to me like they have tweaked the propeller spinner, as mentioned previously. It's carrying ordnance (500lb bombs?) rather than fuel tanks like "Killer". Dirk's website is www.warbirdmodelle.de or.com (either domain name gets you there). Bear in mind it's all in German. Upcoming planes are listed under "Vorschau" (forshow or preview). As I mentioned earler, Dirk runs an XD shop in Germany, and is a real nice guy.

New BBI P-51 Repaints
Oops! About 'dem bombs on "Cripes-A-Mighty". I forgot that "Killer" came with 'em too! Cripes-a-Mighty will have fuel tanks as well, according to BadCat. Incidentally, BadCat says those bombs are 250 pounders-they sure look like 500 pounders to me. Compare "Killer's" bombs next to its pilot for scale.
Go Starbuck!
A Closer Look . . .
. . . shows this to be a photo of a GMP 1:35 diecast and not a 1:18 by BBI. The ADF antenna gives it away.

I agree thats not the "Cripes" thats gonna be released by Badcat and BBI. I'm sure that both planes with have the same thing that "Killer" had like the bombs and metal drop tanks. For "Hurry Home Honey" though I have two 1/18th scale paper drop tanks that mostly all 357th fighter group Mustangs used. Where did I get them? My freind had them on his two Bubble Top P-47s and gave em to me because they werent the right ones. So I'll paint em grey, drill two holes in them and mount them on the pylons when "Honey" arrives. Simple as that!
Repaint Mustangs
Hello!
I get this repaint Mustangs from Badcat. The picture is not the new BBI Cripes a Mighty. This is only a sample for this repaint of the Killer. Yes, the picture shows the GMP model.
Thanks for visiting my homepage.

what's the tweak ?
What is the tweak of proppeler on the BBI "killer" P51? i've got one and as i red in past forums in changed the pylon place and have done a bit of repaint (GQ instead of GO + painting the canopy frame wich was too transparent ) but i didn't know a problem with the proppeler (in fact it looks so good if you compare at the first 21 century P51 !!!!!!) I just know that the color is not exact ....

Britt,
I love your side-by-side pictures!!!! Thanks! Do you have a side shot? The aft fuselage on the bbi P-51 is too deep, IMHO. The retooled 21st version had everything just right. A half a degree here and there makes a big difference on the asthetics of a plane.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but I can't remember if they've managed to get the rake of the landing gear done properly. Any idea?[/quote]centone wrote:[quote="Teamski"The retooled 21st version had everything just right.
......except the gear. The one on display didn't have any installed. I asked Roy about the gear at the show, since it is THE most irritating inaccuracy on both 21st and bbi P-51s to me. He said that it would be correct. I hope so. Without the rake, the P-51 looks really silly.....
So far, the only WWII planes with good landing gear are the Corsair, Spitfire and the P-40.

ps: Oh, and somebody didn't move the external tanks on their P-51... tsk, tsk, tsk......

The aft fuselage is too deep on the BBI Mustang? Ah............ok if you say so teamski. To me its look pretty damn close to a real Mustang. I hope all this talk of how good the 21st new tool Mustang is lives up to the hype. Because if its not alot of people will have egg on their faces if its not.
I dont claim to be a P-51 expert but I do have alot of knowledge about the P-51. I've compared scale drawings of the real thing to BBI's Mustang and save for the canopy and spinner its nearly dead on. I just wish I had a damn scanner to prove my point because I'd show everyone what I'm talkin about. I'm not saying that the BBI Mustang is the greatest thing since sliced bread and I'm not promoting BBI's product either. I'm just saying that BBI's Mustang is the best damn Mustang on the market today and until 21st gets around to releasing their hyped up new tool Mustang thats they way it will be, period.
Will 21sts Mustang be everything alot of people say it will be? Only time will tell.
Enough said.

Aferg is right, the bombs are 500 lbrs, not 250's. Last year I posted a pic showing scale of each WW2 US GP bomb standing up next to a person of avg ht for the time & it's unquestionable. They may have meant them to be 250's but according to their size in relation to the plane/pilot...they're 500's.

Yeah, I guess I'm picky, but Britt's second photo shows exactly what I'm talking about. Take a look at the jacking point on both planes. This is a small hole next to the B on the real plane and the S on the model. Right next to the hole, you will see a vertical panel line. Compare the fuselages of both planes. On the bbi plane, the bottom of the fuselage "breaks" towards the scoop at the panel line while on the real thing, the line continues and breaks forward of this line. The aft fuselage on the bbi one doesn't look quite right. After looking at planes for 31 years, these sort of details really stand out. Like the spinner, canopy and gear, this affects the look of the plane. Just my .02 worth.....MightyMustang wrote:The aft fuselage is too deep on the BBI Mustang?
