British Paratrooper Sgt. Gavin Reid Equipment inquiry

G'day everyone. Been enjoying reading through the forum lately as usual as well as seeing all the great custom work going on.

For a while I've been looking into ordering the bbi British paratrooper Gavin Reid off the internet (as there doesn't seem to be any bbi around Sydney at the moment).
I'm particularly interested in any close up photos of his pistol which I think may be an FN Browing Hi Power which I'm hoping to use as a sidearm in my own customizing efforts to create a bunch of genuine 1960s-1970s mercenaries.
There are a few pictures of this bbi figure on foxhole toys but I was wondering if any of you had Gavin the para and could provide me with a close up shot of his pistol so I can be certain that it is not a colt .45.

I have the BBI British figure Gavin Reid and comparing his BBI pistol (look at:http://www.sshqdb.com/18/displayimage.p ... =122&pos=0
to that of the BBI US Pathfinder Ben Talbot (look at:http://www.sshqdb.com/18/displayimage.p ... =505&pos=0)
Both are different guns.
When you get to the links, click on the pics and they will blow up big to see better detail.

Cheers Razor. Looks like you're right and you've confirmed my suspicions that Reid's sidearm is indeed a Browning Hi Power. Just need to get my hands on some now which should be the difficult part.

It seems that bbi is keen to have a diverse range of sidearms as I discovered recently when I opened up my US super humvee and to my surprise discovered a tan colored Beretta 92F came with the driver figure (haven't actually seen too many tan coloured beretta ever but a bit of paint should fix that). For such an important sidearm in the current US arsenal it seems odd they did not issue it with more of their figures.

P.S. If you ever wanted to trade in that Browning Hi Power I'm sure I could replace i with one of my countless P226's that have come with the other bbi figures I've acquired over the years! Ha ha ha Then again I don't I'm allowed to do that as a relative newbie to this forum.

April isn't too far off for you to be past your 6 months for the new people.
You might keep you eyes on TRU's website after Christmas. Last year they had several BBI figures for .70 cents each!
If I happen to encounter any of this figure cheap, I will grab some for you to trade later.

I could get him to send to you, but don't know what the shipping would be

Perhaps you may have a rare or hard to find figure that you might have duplicates of and may want to trade

there is supposed to be a british para figure coming from BBI without the jump gear on. Mike showed me a picture of it over a year ago and it looked great. Hopefully it will rear it's head some day.

An alternative to the BBI figure is the Dusty Trail British para that came out a few years ago. You can sometimes find a retailer that's trying to dump them. It's quite a nice figure, albeit very limited articulation and molded on parachute harness, like the BBI figure. Came with a nice sten gun.

Thanks guys. You're you've been extremely helpful! Hopefully I'll be in contact when I'm past the six month mark and I've got a defence budget sorted (albeit a very small one). Foxhole Toys seem to be selling them at $15.95 each not including postage, so I'll definitely have to look into any chance to pick them up cheaper.

I've seen the dusty trails para a few years ago but I did view the limited articulation as dissuading me from making a purchase.

In terms of the value of my own collection. It is very infantry based with my sole vehicle being the superhumvee.
My most valuable figures would probably be the large number of series 1 Vietnam figures and the series 1 bbi SWAT/Navy SEALS/ woodland US Army figures.
As well as a very large Post WWII small arms arsenal from 21st, bbi, Intoyz and others.
The Series 1 WWII Marines will be turned into the Mercs.

I'm probably going to have to sell off some of my collection and downsize at some point but I've just got to decide what has to go. The superhumvee sans the 106mm recoiless rifle and 50. Cal (needed for the mercs) will probably go along with maybe the US Army woodland bbi and some Vietnam Series 1.

I'm seriously contemplating purchasing my first piece of armour, the M48A3 but at A$128 its a pretty steep purchase meaning that 105mm will blow some big holes in my wallet. So not sure if it is worth it...

Also may purchase some Indiana Last Crusade Germans to be painted up as Communist OPFPOR for the Mercs.

So that is my current 1/18 situation. At the moment looking rather complicated and costly!

I would really wait on the M48A3 until you are able to Buy/Sell/Trade. I am sure one of our members would have an extra one of these to sell much cheaper than the price you mentioned.
