Who has the best price on "California Cutie"?

Post by worldwar2buff » Thu Aug 28, 2008 11:39 am

I'm in the market for a P-38, the California Cutie version. Anyone know who has the best price?

So far, I've found a couple places where they are $75. Speaking of that, has anyone dealt with either of these places:

Considering that these have been out of stock with 21st Century for about three months, that is probably a pretty reasonable price.

Definitely let me know how it goes. If all goes well, I'll order one as well.

Foxholetoys.com says it has a few left for $99.95:

I got mine for $60 plus in June when I heard they were being discontinued.

I got mine from my local Hobbytown USA store. It was sort of funny as they had a couple for months, but I held off. Then when I decided to get one, they had sold out. A couple weeks after that, a single plane reappeared and I got it

I paid $80 for it, but I didn't have to pay shipping 8)

You bet!! Gladly!!

So far I've received no notification from them, but that's ok, associations like this are like that. What I'm not sure about is method of shipping. The cost was $35 which is inline for something this big to here via USPS Priority with handling costs etc. However they may have shipped it parcel post or worse fedex or UPS. It can easily take a month or more to get here in that case. So far things are normal.

I'll keep you informed.

Just arrived with everything in good order. One nice surprise occurred on the 6th. I'd received notice from them that they've refunded $15 of the original $35 shipping price due to shipping being much lower then their website quoted!! Total of 18 days from order to delivery.

If you haven't gotten one yet this seems to be a good source.

CHUNKS:

So what is the total cost of the P-38 including shipping?

(I love my California Cutie---when I look at it from 5 feet away it, I always have this image of a real P-38 on an airfield just before D-Day---none of my other models do that).

Came to $95 though PayPal after the refund. $75 + $20 shipping.

Hmmm..just noticed the props aren't handed on 'cutie. The ratcheting is still there, but both props are clockwise, (from the pilots view). I've both Putt Putt Maru and Haleakala II and the props on them are handed to match the ratcheting. Doesn't affect how happy I am getting it, just odd is all.

That was the only one one the shelf at the time, but there are still a couple of #28 avengers, f-86 squitches, seeman 109s, ridge runners, PH p-40s, and a chinese mig- priced more than walmart but less than online sellers.

It appears that this outfit has Cal Cutie in stock. Price is good. I've bought from them before on eBay, no problems, but never directly from their website. Might want to ping them to make sure it's in fact in stock:

I've gone to Shopkerenza.com and tried to purchase but when you ADD TO CART the CART page says at the top that Shopkerenza is not open for business. Then you cannot put any billing info into their page after loading it in the cart. So, I guess they are not selling anything right now. They have been showing the Calif. Cutie for a while and even some Pappy Boyington corsairs, but cannot order.
Anyone know what's up with them?

what a change 6 or 7 years make- my silver DDay P-38 has a well worn canopy, somewhat loose gear covers, other signs of occasional handling-
my new cutie went from the box to assembly to hanging on the wall in no time flat. I guess I no longer feel he need play with 'em, just to own 'em.
maybe I'll lower the gears at some point.
