Hobby Town USA carries 21C

Post by mondaytanker » Wed Oct 27, 2004 5:27 am

I am a customer of our local HT USA. The owner had informed me that HT USA was planning on carrying the 21C line. Yesterday I stopped in and they had 3 1/18 vehicles and a pile of 1/32, priced in line with the internet retailers. He wasn't sure what to order. I recommended getting a few APC's and panzer's. I told him I would take a few. They wanted $8.99 for the figures though. I told him get that down to about $6 and I would buy them all.

Problem is, at a wholesale cost of $4.25 + freight charges selling them for $6 doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Most retailers would probably prefer to just skip it and invest in something else if that's going to be the extent of the profit margin.

That's good news.

I have a few stores near me, and it's worth a looksie.

They're usually not very competitive (vs internet) on pricing across the board.

Hopefully a new day dawns!

Some, if not most, of the Hobby Town stores are independantly owned, and can stock whatever they think will sell. The store here is loaded with tons of R/C and childrens toys, I asked about XD and they had no idea what I was talking about. Without a suppliers catalog to order from they were lost.

Prices, guys, I was joking around with him. But I still won't spend $9 a figure regardless of their profit margins. Plus you forgot HT's franchise fee's. I have been around long enough to know this.

The owner told me if 21C offered something I wanted to let him know and he would try and hunt it down for me. Like I said the vehicles prices were in line. For me that means no shipping charge. :D

The Hobbytown USA store in my town, Fresno, California, has been carrying 21st, BBI, and Dragon for at least the past year!!

They have the full lineup of current 21st planes plus some of the armor and all the 32x vehicles. I kind of consider this my private XD stash (the items sell, but not too quickly) and the supply in stock exceeds anything I ever saw at TRU or Wal Mart. My Hobbytown is a great backup source for any given aircraft (and now vehicle) release, should Wal Mart not get a particular version. Pricing is the same as it is at most small retailers, and is not outrageous. I have always been able to get up-to-date release info from the employee that orders the merchandise. Glad to see that more stores will be carrying XD as Hobbytown is the perfect outlet for those products.

I have been trying to get my HobbytownUSA to carry 21st and Dragon stuff... The store is independently owned and the owner won't buy..

I'd say $9 is more than fair as you don't have to pay shipping/insurance AND instead of hoping you get a good item in the mail that was bought sight unseen, you likely have a few to choose from.
