I think this is one of the first 21st C S4 Panthers to arrive in the states

I just had to shoot some quick posts to share with everyone

First is the "Right out of the shipping box" shot, next a few on the dio board and the last is a close up of the commander figure that comes with it. Here's the Pic.s
The tank looks good, but I think the commander is a repaint.
I'll post a better evaluation later when I get more time to play with it

Now I got to get back to work

Tank looks great, thank for posting the pictures. I really like that paint scheme.

Great looking tank! I'm still partial to the S1 version, but the new Panther does sport a great paintscheme. It will go well with the cammo Pak-40 and several of the other vehicles with "eastern front" style camoflauge. The commander figure is indeed a repaint - its the old "Battle of the Bulge" tanker body with the original German tank commander headsculpt. Same as what came with the S1 Panzer IV. For $80, I think I'll pass on this one as it doesn't offer anything significant over what I already have. Still, nice to see the Panther once again revisited

How many hatches can be opened on the Panther and why is the camouflage restricted to the hull & turret/gun (i.e. not the wheels)?

The hatches that open are: Commander's cupola hatch, engine hatch, rear turret hatch, radio operator and driver's hatches.
It's not really a big deal that the road wheels weren't painted. Not all German tanks had camouflaged roadwheels.
If you really think about it...what would be the point? Were they trying to camouflage it to Allied soldiers who creeping on their bellies?

Could've fooled me. Well, not could have, but did. From all of the photos I saw, I thought the base paint was a light green.

It is a very light green.
I believe it matches the older S2(?) Eastern front Tiger I that 21st C made.

21st needs to make new non-winter panzer crews.
for Normandy the current theme, Panzer Lehr crews in the reed green wraps.

Is there a reason why 21st never re-released their standard Panzer commander?

Probably the "old style" articulation... Its a figure they need to revisit, I think. If they combined the new articulation of the D-Day series figures with the removable caps from the BoB tankers, with the looks of the original figure, 21c would have a winner

I'm pretty sure he got it off ebay from a guy in China on a BIN deal.

Agreed. That panzer commander is a really good figure, despite its age.
I hope the mold didn't burn like the kettenkrad during the accident.

That is a nice paint job. It is worth having at least one of them. I agree with the others though. The Ambush pattern is cooler looking.
