Has anyone here ever had a 1:18 conversion gone bad? Have you ever had this great idea...only for it to fail miserably in implementation?
I tried to do some head swapping with some Indiana Jones Russian soldiers...an then I started to randomly paint my frankenstein creation.
After I was finished, I was staring at this jacked up figure (which was once cool).
I sort of feel dirty. Part of me doesn't even want to look at another Russian soldier figure for a while, for fear I might jack it up.
Two words: glossy mess. Once this thing dries I'll try to post pics.
Anybody have a similar story?

Well, I won't take it so hard
To master ANY craft, there is and will be mis-haps, glitches and boo-boos.
It's all part of the learning process
I've got a few strange items I've crafted over the years with none of them looking perfect or other folks saying "It's not right" and a few of those I actually DO like
So I'm about to jump in again to build some more vehicles(and finish my tanks too
) . Some my not be perfect, but if I like them, then who cares
Rivit counter feedback is not as important as how You feel about a project. And if it's a learning thing and your not happy with it, then perhaps make it a battle victim for the battlefield
Any scene could or should have bodies lying around, and then give the project another try
You'll always do a better job the next go around because of your first try. Been there, done that AND learned from it too

It's a learning process. I've jacked up a ot of figures in my days as a novice. Now as a more experienced customizer, I hardly ever jack up a fig. You learn all these little trix to fix your oopses. I've even gotten pretty inventive with my leftover parts.
My recent German U-Boat captain was made of scap I had floating around in my fodder bin.
Not bad for scap fodder.
Another way I learn, is to make the same custom over and over until you perfect it.
Don't be discoraged by a bad custom, just learn from your mistakes, and make it better next time.

LOL, the title of this thread says it all.
I've gotten the figures down pretty well (I find less is more). But one time I tried to make a SdKfz 2cm FlaK using model parts and kit bashing several 21st vehicles. Needless to say, it ended in ruin, like the cannibalized vehicles I tried using
Ah well, onto to bigger and better things
