21st WW2 Japanese Figures

Post by tko211 » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:42 am

Also for those curious... There has had to be a slight change of plans on the japaneese figures pics. There is a brand new set of photos that show new articulation points that are in the final product so I want to show that for sure if it is more accurate to the final toy. Hang tight for another day or two, I promise you will see them by mid week. But to make up for the delay I have been given the greenlight to push out the second paint master for the F-104 today. Sorry if this is not the correct topic for this post P-51. I just wanted to relpy to the quesion about the figure pics!

The new images have been posted! I think the figures look good, and can't wait to get a closer look at them. Looks like they come with a lot of well-detailed equipment too. I think the marines are gonna have their hands full.

The facial expressions on a couple of the troops do seem a bit strange. For instance, one of them looks quite depressed and another looks as if he's getting ready for a bowel movement. Perhaps their Chinese makers decided to have a little fun in retaliation for all those years of torment, especailly considering the current state of affairs in that part of the world?

Now for the Zero!

So are there only 6 Japanese soldiers? At least I think I'm only counting six...

Stunning! I can't wait for these! I'll have to get that whole squad as they all look awesome and incredibly well detailed. I'm glad the machine gunner comes with a helmet and that officer with the sword looks even more authoritarian than the S1 German Officer! I think that new style articulation is what we are going to potentially see on the new aircraft pilots, the Platoon and Sahara figures. My how far 21c has come from those S1 US and German troops, and those are still pretty top notch!

Japanese figures

6 would be nice - I thought they only showed 5 on the back of the USMC, though I'm not sure. At least with 6 there will be 2 of each in a case, although I guess it wouldn't hurt to have 1 officer and Machine Gunner for every 2 Infantry. But they look so damn cool, I know I'm going crazy when these come out.
Even my girlfriend - who was suspicious of what I was drooling over at the computer  - had to say how cool they looked :D . That's a green light to stock up.

I love the guy wearing the hachimi (sp?), the raising sun headband. I can see taking a pic of that guy leading a bonzai charge with the samurai sword. I cannot wait for them to come out. Oh the fun I will have!

Hehehehe..... Great shots of the figures. I LOVE the inclusion of the Knee Mortar!! It's perfect for all of those old 109 pilots I have with snapped off legs!!!!

i noticed the knee mortar too Ski. A nice touch for sure. An interesting fact about Japanese knee mortars: the name was coined by US soldiers when they first came across them because they believed that they were meant to be fired from a kneeling position, while resting the mortar on the thigh, just above the knee. They thought this because the base of the mortar was curved in such a way that it looked like it should rest on a human thigh.

This was not how it was meant to be used, however and a few Marines broke their legs firing them before word got around.

The curved base was merely meant to rest on the ground..

And does the Machine Gunner have a bipod or am I seeing things? Very cool gear overall.

IIRC from the carded figure pics that were posted a while ago, two of the figures are very similar.....both riflemen with identical gear and almost identical faces. I assumed there was some difference between them that was not obvious.

I counted the recent pics quickly so maybe there are just six diff't figures shown (although i thought two of them were similar but not the same).

Perhaps 21c decided making two nearly identical figures was not the way to go...

i have been corrected. There are only 6 japanese figures; two of which are nearly identical.

Time for a new prescription...

Good Info

Post by digger » Fri Apr 22, 2005 2:32 pm

"two of which are nearly identical"
- I'm glad they did that. Out of 6 guys 2 should look pretty much the same in terms of uniform/gear. Easier to "army build" too....and now they'll be no short guys. :)
I hope the gear pegs aren't unique for each figure like on the Marines. It's nice to be able to swap 'em up...
Anyway, I can't wait...they better make a lot of them

I was shocked to find out that these figs were as far along as they were. when 21st showed them to me they said they were just around the corner. I will see if I can get an ETA for these guys. For the record: there are 6 figs and they will also be hitting Wal-Mart as well as specialty retail shops. -Gotta have something for our Maines to fight!
