Yes. I have that kit from Gary. I am building mine as we speak. Absolutely top notch work. The recent Jagdpanther that the hun sold on Ebay for over $500.00 was one of these kits.

No it was not. He bought the kit to see how it looked. The body for the Jagdpanther was made by my templates . I went to Miss. and after about 8 hrs we ( the Hun and I ) came up with the patterns and we made the mantlet togther. Gary's was a little off scale but his mantlet was good. The Hun may use Gary's mantlet on another project. BUT IT WAS NOT USED ON THIS ONE. All of the detail on top of the fighting compartment was SRATCH BUILT by the Hun. All of the doors open .The prototype of this joint subject is in my shop . The second one sold on e-bay.

Whether it be 1/18 or 1/6, even if his Judpanther turret is "a little off", Gary is one talented modeler. If I didnt have ten thumbs, I'd jump on Gary's kit.

No offense to "the Hun, we just have some really great modelers on this board.

I'd sure like to know where it's off. I worked directly from the excellent drawings in Panzer Tracts No. 9-3 Jagdpanther. What source did you use?

I haven't spoken to the Hun since he got my JP kit and some Sturmtiger parts. He seemed very pleased with them.

Thanks for the comments, Gentlemen.

Custom kits

Post by thehun » Sat Feb 09, 2008 12:04 am

Hi Guys,
Well i guess i better weigh in on this one,
first of all let me say this,The jadgpanther that i auctioned on e-bay
a few weeks ago was built long before i got one of Gary's kits,
It has been sitting on a work bench for at least a year if not two,
waiting for the final touches and painting,
I just finaly got around to finish making the molds i needed to build more.
So far 4 have been built and each one is numbered, pickelblube and i built the first 2, (pickelblube has 1--Gen Blasto--has 1
A collector in Europe has the other 2
So to make a long story short--NOTHING on my kit or soon to be kits
are from Gary's kits.
When gary and i talked he ask me in a very nice way not to copy his
kit for resale, which was no problem since i had already designed my own kit,
But what i was after was the mantlet Gary had built for his kit,
I have seen 3 types of mantlets on jadgpanthers,
Pickelplube built one version, I built the second version,
and when i saw Gary's kit, There it was ---The Third Version mantlet
already made, and thats when i contacted Gary about his Kit and the mantlet
which he offered to send me one but i bought the whole kit instead,
since it would save me from many hours making a mantlet, i just bought Gary's,
I might use it----I might not---The important thing is i don't have to make it now.
About Gary's kit's ---They Very nice kit's and very well made---A must for someone who wants to
build their own, and you can't beat the price, If your lucky enough to get one of these kits---Get it---You won't be sorry ( I still want that stug kit Gary)
I haven't put the kit i got from Gary together yet and might not ever, Thats not why i bought it, but i am impressed with it
I'm a detail freak, I like the straches, bent up--beat up look, I always take my Customs
to the next level, and no 2 vehicles are alike, I learned this from 30 years of restoring 1:1 military vehicles,
which i have a Personal collection of several.
But as far as to who's kit is right or who's is wrong,
I don't know and really haven't gave it much thought, I have a set of drawings i go by and Gary has a set he goes by.
We can't help it if our drawings are different, And i think Pickelhaube, Gary and i all agree that building these customs are time comsuming, A head ache,
Pain in the butt and just about not worth it----But we do it anyway---

And as far as Model builders and customizers, This form has some of the best i have ever seen, More than just a few,
Some i would love to work with on custom projects, -Maybe one day--

Pickelhaube and The Hun: thanks for the clarifications. My Jagdpanther stuff is of the late version, of which the mantlet is the most noticeable difference. I will provide individual resin parts to any collector who wants to do their own at a reasonable price.

I have neither the talent nor the patience of people like The Hun and 1958zelda to do the detail work and painting that they do, so I leave it to others.

As for the Stug IV:

that was a one off, which I recently sold to a California collector who also got one of my Sturmtigers. A conversion kit would take more time to produce than I have available, so that is not realistic at this time.

Can anyone tell me where to buy shares in this "scratch" stuff? These guys use it all the time and it gives excellent results. All I ever make is a mess!

As like me, JeffRowse; I think we're better off buying kits from these guys.
I'd further like to say that Pickelhaube, the Hun and Gary1930, are very talented modelers and I appreciate their time an artwork in this hobby.
who knows maybe a joint effort would be in the works ?
and... no I'm not kissing up...

Sorry for the misunderstanding guys. I assumed when Gary told me he sold a kit to The Hun that it was what he used for his Jagdpanther. I am just really excited that we even have something like this available.
