Gunner..... I will post pics once the Jayhawk is complete. I am in the CG Reserve so I'm kind of partial to CG aviation. I went to Air Sta. Elizabeth City and photographed HH-60J, BuNo 6001, which was the very first Jayhawk off of the assembly line. I took about 75 shots so that may give you some idea of the amount of detail that is going into the model. Give me a few weeks to finish her up and I'll post a few shots!

A lancaster would be great,we have one indoors at our tank club's base(MOTAT) in Auckland which is an aviation museum, the bombay doors are open with a full load of various bombs inside.I can get some shots next time I go there ,if anybody wants. They also have a V1,that would be a nice 1/18th model as well.

I don't understand why 21st cent are limiting themselves to aircraft which fit inside the current aircraft boxes when they are OK with larger boxes for the rc stuart,as an example.

They are tied to box size by Walmart primarily since they have to pack X number of planes in a container to keep costs down. This might have to change due the size of future aircraft. The bigger you get, the bigger box you need. BBi's F-18 and F-16 are in huge boxes, only 2 to a case (as is the P-51) but note that they aren't carried by WM. There isn't a standard size bbi box to save a life. I'm not sure this is a reason why, but it could have an impact. So, my wish of a Mossie might not be realistic until a new box standard is created. Maybe using the P-38 box could be an option.......

Box Size

Post by digger » Fri Mar 25, 2005 7:08 am

Actually it's not Walmart any more than it is everyone else I think. A 21st rep at TF noted to me that with standard boxes retailers could order mix & match cases - whatever planes they want could all ship in the same cases. In turn 21st could be more flexible with orders they can fill. I suggested the P-38 box as an example of a larger, non-uniform box and the rep looked down at it and gave it a dirty look, seriously
He noted how those boxes made the P-38 distribution more difficult and forced retailers to commit to multiples of a complete case. My point was with the Avenger they should have to commit to at least a case - they're loss if they don't because we all know it will sell :D

I've been waiting for a post like this! If we're wishing, let's wish big!

Zero
Frank or Oscar
Kate or Val
Hellcat
Dauntless
Typhoon or Sea Fury
Mosquito
P-51B

A-10

As long as we're thinking big:
C-47
Mitchell
Invader

How about Ground Crews and equipment?
Tools and Vehicles to load ordinance.
Ordinance packs to fit existing aircraft. (Who among us wouldn't want to hang some bombs or rockets on their Corsair?)

More generic Infantryman like the first series!
Radioman
More than one Rifleman
2-packs!
Mortar Crew
Machine gun crew w/gun and tripod
Medic w/ litter and wounded soldier

I could go on, but this is my first post and I don't want everyone to think I'm crazy!

Welcome Jug! In case you haven't noticed, alot of us ain't too with it.

You're list made me think of one figure I wish we could see. How about a generic GI in a t-shirt? I could use a bunch of those for background figures.

The Zero and 190A for me.

These two represent a real (and painful) void in the early 1/18 WWll classic collection.

As far as modern goes, the only one of adequate style AND substance for me to probably ever consider is the venerable F14. It's by far the "prettiest" to date, and they sure 'aint gettin' any prettier these days!

(all subjective, I know  )

Reminder: I'm a Navy aviation nut...

Hellcat... 21c figured out the wing fold on the Avenger and the landing gear works like the Corsair and P-40. Should be a cinch for them to follow up with the F6F.

Wildcat... Grumman wing fold the same, but the landing gear could be tough to engineer.

Dauntless... a basic, easy aircraft. Should be fairly simple. The preforated dive flaps would be a great attention to detail to have. Great history with this little aircraft. ("scratch four flattops at Midway!")

How about the OS2U Kingfisher floatplane?? Would be different but fun!

Recent history: OV-10 Bronco, Vietnam and Desert Storm heritage. About the right size for a 21c attempt...smaller than the Avenger. Great-looking little twin-engine aircraft!

F9F Panther
AD-1 Skyraider

These are only my personal wishes. Many dittoes to the great ideas for other aircraft mentioned in this thread!

...AND A ZERO!

Regards,
JimBob

Someone else mentioned mechanics earlier, and it got me thinkin'....

1:18 ground crew to go along with all these aircraft. WWII USAAF and USN for starters. Maybe sections of scale preforated steel runway or aircraft carrier decking?

I'm probably going overboard... these would be fun but maybe not enough demand?

I am probably just echoing other Board members' fine suggestions here, but I want: a P-39 Airacobra, a SB2C Helldiver, a F4F Wildcat, a F6F Hellcat, FW-190A, Junkers Ju-88, Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Frank), Kawanishi Shiden-kai (George), Yak-9 or Yak-7, a Hawker Typhoon Hawker Hurricane, Bristol Beaufighter,
and Angela Jolie-not necessarily in that order! 8)
Go Starbuck!
