German Camo Question...Circles

Post by metalwar » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:55 pm

I have seen a camo recently that appears to be solid color dots or circles joined together to make almost cloud like shapes in green and brown. Does any one know what this is called and when it would have been used. I am wanting to re-paint a Panther in the dunklgelb with these shapes.

Cloud pattern camo. Popular on the Hetzer.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

Thanks. It would be really out of place on a Late Model Panther?

I kind of think so. Real late Panther's were Dk yellow or green and red primer. Sorta strait lines and angles.

No, this pattern was used alongside the ambush scheme and many vehicles were painted in this pattern, including JagdpanzerIV, Panthers and Hetzers..

Hey Hworth 18,
Nice pic of a Panther. I can't see all of it but that tank is not a real late war version. It does not have the chin mantlet. It does not have zimmerit. So when does that place it between 43 and 44?
Real late war the Germans started using hard lines on there armor Panther ,Tiger II and what not.

Considering that we can't see the bottom of the mantlet, I think its hard to say whether it is a late G or not, but regardless, this pattern was in use in the late war on German armor. The fact that the Panther doesn't have Zimmerit says that this Panther was produced after September '44 since zimmerit use was discontinued in that month..
