Abrams FOV rear turret meltdown?

Post by Robopredator » Tue Jan 15, 2008 10:48 pm

well I got 3 during the clearence
at target,
I did not look them over since it was a frenzy but at 7.00 and some change i figured it didnt matter,
anyway the back part of the turret is made of softer plastic, and 2 of the three
are bent and warped,
one is ok,
I was wondering if this is common for these tanks? has anyone had this problem,?

Oh and hiding stuff in your trunk is not advisable, since that might have warped it,
thanks!

also would the tanks look as good without that back part on it?

thanks
Robo

Is it possible to swap the turret with a BBI turret?

ROBOPREDATOR:

I went to 3 Targets looking for an Abrams without the heavily-bent storage rack and heavily-bent 50 cal. machine gun and find one with a moderately-bent rack and machine gun.

Also, I looked for an Abrams without the weathering problem---streaks of "clean" throughout the weathering. My Abrams has a small clean streak on the right side which is no problem because I look at the left side. However, I noticed all the other Abrams had severe clean streaks on their left side. I saw one Abrams with double imprints of "51" and the IFF symbols on the left side.
I'm ticked off that I paid $30 full price for mine, but the consolation is that the flawed Abrams I saw were apparently reduced to clearance price after Christmas so I got what I paid for---a relatively defect-free Abrams.

Mine is bent also. I didn't know if it was suppose to be that way. I am glad someone brought this up, I have been wanting to ask the same thing.

Other complaints about the Abrams---the storage rack has no weathering---which contrasts with the weathered tank.

Also, the doors on the gunner's sight are incorrectly located externally. The doors on FOV's 1/32 Abrams are correctly located inside the sight housing.

Otherwise, I love the FOV 1/18 Abrams--I look at mine everyday.

SABREFAN:

Most of the Abrams 50 cal machine guns are bent, too, so I don't think the storage rack is intentionally bent.

I don't understand why the rack and machine gun are made of soft plastic...unless it's cheaper.

thanks for the response and help guys,

i think they went with soft plastic to keep that area from breaking off,
the paint job is superb better than bbi but bbi
uses better plastic, so i guess it all depends what you like. I find the bbi desert stuff to be orangy and not quite the right hue. this is my first set of abrams so im not upset. the bradleys do have flex plastic on a side grill but everything else looks ok. i think for the price the FOV armor is great.

Hmmm... the first few times I saw them in stores I took a pass 'cause I thought it was a defect either in manufacturing or packaging (perhaps like those clear rubber bands 21c uses secure models).

I think we can all recognize battle damage to side armor and mudflaps, but somehow the storage rack is a little more ambiguous and left me wondering if it was just an isolated defect.

I kept hoping to find one without the bent storage rack, never did.

As stock came and went with the same defect/enhancement, I came to the conclusion that's the way FOV intended it. Never bought one because of the storage rack issue.

IMO, it would have been better to produce it with a storage rack that wasn't bent and let those who really wanted a bent storage rack, do it themselves.

I really doubt it was on purpose. Pieces like that are hard to make sturdy yet realistic looking - and still affordable.

I doubt FOV intended on bent storage racks, too...because the 50 cal machine guns are also bent.

Yes the 50 cal machine gun is bent, but it is made of such soft plastic, that it can easily be bent back to shape.
