Difference In Color Of Super Cobra Boxes
Difference In Color Of Super Cobra Boxes
New here so please excuse what may sound like a silly question...Does it make a difference to collectors who want a Snake Super Cobra if it comes in a red Motorworks box as opposed to the black/ green one?

Re: Difference In Color Of Super Cobra Boxes
The product is exactly the same so it shouldn't. For in the box collectors maybe, but afterall the 21C box is not that nice anyway, so even then it shouldn't matter.RA5BS wrote:New here so please excuse what may sound like a silly question...Does it make a difference to collectors who want a Snake Super Cobra if it comes in a red Motorworks box as opposed to the black/ green one?
Thanks for the replies.
My question was prompted by seeing almost exclusively red boxes offered on eBay and I wondered if they might be more rare. I have a Snake Super Cobra and a camo version but both came in the black/ green boxes. I actually got them at my local Wal Mart a month ago for $25 apiece. They are definitely cool. But there are two more Snakes at this particular store and I am trying to decide if I should go grab them and hold onto 'em as a sort of investment. Avarice can be fun- profitable too maybe...And, yes, the pair of them are also in black/ green boxes.

RA5BS, did these boxes look old and beat up or new and recently released? Guys, if WM is back in the 1/18 game can you think of a better re-release than the Cobra? I think we should all keep our eyes peeled.

Olifant,
The Super Cobras were/ are certainly old stuff. They were on a top shelf and the boxes were extremely dusty.
By the way, I also found an Air Cav Huey in that same bunch-also obviously a long forgotten leftover- and got it for $25 as well.

I've never seen any Cobra at WalMart recently but it is a neat surprise to seen very old releases still in a store. Two strange examples:
Earlier in the summer I picked up a yellow nose Stuka in an area Walmart and more recently in October I saw 1:18 blue 12 FW 190D in a Wally World traveling through Tennessee. Both were on discount for $25.
Didn't pick up the FW190. Never liked the Dora version. Did however sell the Stuka to someone on this board later on though.
Now if only I could ever run across any Spitfire at WalMart!!!

I've actually seen the red Motorworks boxed examples bring more than the 21st boxed examples. Alot of in the box collectors like myself prefer some of the older Motorworks released items as they are definitely never coming back.

Thanks again for the replies/ insights.
After weeks of consideration, I stopped at the local Wally and bought those last two Snake Super Cobras. The total for both was $52.50 and I will hold onto them for awhile perhaps as future eBay fodder- at least that is how I will spin it to my wife once she discovers I have acquired more "junk". But our cats love the XD mountain in the corner of our basement, which they climb all over and these two addtions will just be another minor technical problem for them to negotiate.
VMF 214, your comment about the appeal of Motorworks boxes based on the notion they likely won't be seen again sounds intriguing. Cos' while I was at Wal Mart today securing the helos, I noticed they had one forlorn Motorworks Bradley on the same shelf that looks like it needs a home. I already have one but maybe this orphan could go the eBay route as well. Plus the cats wouldn't mind another XD boulder to hurdle...

If you can get these, then by all means, purchase as many as you can afford, they will almost certainly turn a profit if you put them up at ebay. As for the boxes, I had about 3 of each of the green Motorworks and red "flame graphic" boxes, they all sold like hot cakes at ebay, and one of the "flame" versions netted me nearly $200
The most sought after one though is the so called "land camo" version, I had one these that I let go for cheap, and I wish I had hung on to it now.
I kept a "Snake" model for myself, and this is still one of the coolest models 21C has ever produced in my opinion.

The Super Cobra was released in the later green Motorworks box as well? I thought that by the time they went to green was the time the 190's hit en'mass. Earlier this year I found a WM in OK that had 3 of the snake Cobra's and they did rather well on ebay, financed alot more XD I didn't have!
I can relate to the cat climbing on XD, although ours about got thrown thru a window as he was purched on top of a set of the boxed SS figs and of course wouldn't come down so had to pick him up as careful as possible then he digs the back tires in and scratches the freakin' box!
I've since tried to eliminate any "perch" points within my piles of XD stuff.

Yep, check Grunt1's database and you'll see a pic of it, if memory serves me this one and the flame box were pics of models from my collection that I forwarded to grunt to use in the database, the land camo version is pictured as well, but I'm not sure who provided that one. Green box here... http://www.sshqdb.com/coppermine/displa ... t=79&pos=2The Super Cobra was released in the later green Motorworks box as well?
