Rarest Mustang
There has been some discussion on another thread about how rare various aircraft releases were and whether or not custom runs done by 21st Century for contests should count?
The three planes released as contest prizes are:
Nothin but Trouble (1 of a kind, Roy Sutherland, ComicCon 2005)
Sweet Arlene (3 of a kind, Roy Sutherland, ComicCon 2005)
Tender Terror (approx 200?, Roy Sutherland?, Four For Victory 2005)
21st Century made Nothin but Trouble and Sweet Arlene as prizes for as a contest prize for ComicCon 2005. Tender Terror was made for the Four For Victory contest around the same time.
There was also possibly an accidental release of the Desert 109.
There are also the many re-paints that were released to WM and some Small Retailer Exclusives like Bunnie..
So what makes it rare or official?
- Actually released by 21st Century?
- # of units made?
- Came in a box?
- Whether or not you have one?
- Ever available at WM/Small Retailers?
- Value if it ever appeared on e-bay?

I think Tender Terror is a no brainer to be on your list. Inside sources told me that around 200 plus were made. Sweet Arlene is also another one thats a rare Mustang. To own one of these puts you in an elite group and I'm glad I'm one of them that got the chance to own Tender Terror. I have had a couple of offers recently to sell it but "I dont have a price" as they say.

Info on "yellow 23" desert 109. One of 3 I believe 21st referred to as paint prototypes, they have 2, the 1 they let escape accidentally by sending it in place of I believe a spinach 109. A fellow who was a member of the old Groundpounder site made a post about it. Ordered it (a spinach 109 that is) thru the old 21st fan club when they actually sent out a little catalog pamphlet of things to buy exclusively thru the club. Anyway, it sold a couple years ago on ebay for over $550. The paint scheme is incorrect for an E model but still nonetheless a rare bird. There are also "in the white" 109E's, "box" prototypes. The planes are completely unpainted and all boxed up in blank, unlabeled boxes. Doubt these are as appealing to collectors as a painted bird but still should be in the category of hens teeth I should think. Does anyone have any pics of the 2 CC Mustangs? I don't guess I've ever seen them.

I have pics of one of the ComicCon 2005 Mustangs.
Just click on the website button to view the 21st Century toys. "Nuthin but Trouble"
Total production is 1 of 1 worldwide.
I have included pics of the certificate of authenticity as well as a letter from 21st.
I am biased... but I think this is the rarest of all mustangs because of the number of units produced by 21st.

The Contest Mustangs (Sweet Arlene & Nothin but Trouble) are the rarest from 21c. These are special situations and they are indeed worth the most cash.
However,
The Tender Terror P-51D is the rarest PRODUCTION Model (toy) built by 21c. As they were offered for sale to the public through the particiaption of a special program. With fewer than 200 produced and the cost of participation they are worth a lot as well.
The 109 is a pre-production paint sample that was shipped by accident many years ago. It has traded hands a couple times and I nearly bought it myself once before it sold at auction for 300+. I don't know where it is now.

For Razor:
Only those present at ComicCon 2005 were eligible to enter the raffle for the special mustangs.
21st Century had quite an impressive display booth.
Winning the grand prize made the trip from south Florida to San Diego all the more spectacular for this XD plane nut.

Actually it brought $560, I remember it well. It has actually only traded hands once, twice if you count 21st in the equation...The 109 is a pre-production paint sample that was shipped by accident many years ago.
