Is there Any Interest in the WW1 German A7V ?

Post by pickelhaube » Sat Aug 08, 2015 9:46 am

Hey Guys,

My absolutely favorite tank is the German A7V of WW1 fame .

Any fans out there who would want it as well ?

I have started on it a few years ago and as always it got bumped time and again .

This is a project ( if there is interest ) can happen next year.

Here it is sitting next to a 1/35 model.

I'd like one Pickel, it would be nice to add to the 1:18 collection.
I have an A 1 Abrams sitting next to a 21st Tiger I as examples of the best of technology for their times.
A7V would look great with them!

I am hoping ( as I always do ) that this would be an easy build .

There is not a lot of detail if you can over look the hundreds of rivets .

Since the tracks will not move and the way the armor plate hangs down I will probably only make half of the tracks excluding the top section .

I was also thinking of keeping everything closed ( doors and such ) so there would be no interior . This will streamline the project.

If this project is a success then naturally I will have to build the Mk IV !!

Also if any of you have ever looked at the paint schemes of the A7V ( there were only 20 built ) the markings are not so good . The crosses are at different heights and sizes .

In a full build is this something that needs to be copied or should symmetry win out ?

I think its going to be a great addition to the 1:18 line of armor Pickel.
I think to speed up production (and in the end, the build) the lower section of track
and road wheels would be fine. You'd never be able to see the upper tracks anyway.

Doors I can cut open if needed. I'll build my kit, as for the markings (full build) I'd go
with symmetry.

Looks to be another fine 1:18 Pickelhaube project.

It depends how successful the A7V and Mk Iv goes .

Meng I think is the maker of a relatively new 1/16 Renault Ft-17 model kit .

So the future is not clear as far as that tank being made in 1/18 scale.
