I've thought about doing that myself. If you could get all the parts off without cracking anything then it should be possible with some aircraft. Depends on the gear type I would imagine. the "rainbow" cammo looks terrible I agree. IIRC they had a few of those in kit form at my local WM once upon a time, but I avoided them completely because the paint job was so awful looking.
