Re: M551 sheridan
Very cool! I have the 1:35 Academy and the Jaguar kits that have yet to be built. I've been wanting to see a 1:18 Sheridan for a long time. More than anything, it just symbolizes the 11th 'CAV's assault into Cambodia.

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Here are 3D images of the last two rucks I am doing for now. You may be asking yourself why I did a few different variants of each... The reason is that, if you're like me, and you're outfitting a squad, you don't want every man wearing the same thing. There are so many different possibilities and p...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
$5 is definitely possible. This is why I am soliciting feedback. I realize that the price point isn't just about running numbers to find where I'll break even.

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Yes, and I will sell them on Ebay as well. I also have them scaled for the 1:16 crowd. Although that market for Vietnam rucksacks is smaller, I'm hoping there are people who may be interested in customizing some of the old Verlinden kits, etc. $2-3 is untenable, but I'll consider it because any retu...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
It's funny you mention that. I just finished my masters' courses in industrial engineering and my final project was a maximization problem to find out for much I'd have to sell these given the cost of materials, the cost to pay my modeler and the cost of printing. I'm not going to say the recommende...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Thanks to a member on Fighting 1:18th, I have a solution for the shoulder straps... Hockey Tape! I had seen the tutorials on making plate carriers and pouches with it, but it never dawned on me to use it on my rucks until the suggestion was made. It is a much better alternative to elastic or ribbon ...

Re: M-72 LAW in 1:18
The M-72A7 has different end caps (black rubber) and the addition of a rail mount for optics. It is, otherwise, identical in its operation and handling.

Re: M-72 LAW in 1:18
Thanks. We'll see. I have some interest in Fighting 1:18th, but we'll see if it covers the cost of getting these things developed!
As for the LAW, PTE made one that is way undersized for 1:18. I haven't seen any others.

M-72 LAW in 1:18
http://i61.tinypic.com/2e2mpv7.jpg I'm producing this along with my work on the rucksacks. To my knowledge, this will be the first accurately scaled M-72A1 LAW in 1:18. But since it is the same body style as the current M-72A7 LAW, it can be used for modern Afghanistan inspired work as well. I had ...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
I received the 1:18 lightweight ruck prototype in today. Here are some product demo photos. As you can see, right now I'm having to go with the PTE option for shoulder straps. Please keep in mind that these are still very much prototypes. So far, printing shoulder straps is proving to be infeasible....

Newest 3D rendering of the next model to be produced; a tropical rucksack with a 5-quart canteen, claymore, 2-quart canteen and an XM-28 protective mask carrier. http://i57.tinypic.com/50gytj.jpg I have new prototypes of the lightweight ruck in 1:18 being shipped as I write this. Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Wow...it makes me sad to see this post buried. But fear not, in spite of some obstacles my project hasn't died. We now have successful prototypes from shapeways! It took some time to get the thickness of the frame correct. 3D models look cool as jpeg's, but they don't always print out the way the pi...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Here is the 3D image of the rucksack with canteens and bandoleers. Last week I received newly printed prototypes of the radio pack. We're still working on getting the optimal thickness for the ruck frame so that it will withstand the printing process and ship without breaking. This is the primary ob...

KT, yes an M-3 aid bag would be easy to do... First prototype photo of the radio and frame: http://i61.tinypic.com/54x6pz.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/17xvll.jpg There's a reason that it's called a prototype. We're already working on strengthening the frame and seeing if the shoulder straps are going ...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Rylau, I hear what you're saying but I have a couple of reasons for the addition of the squawk box. It is my first priority to model things accurately. That's why I'm doing this and I value your input as a veteran. As an infantryman, we sometimes used them on our MANPACKS, and sometimes didn't. But ...

I can now send this for 3D printing through Shapeways! The modeler will now work on the rucksacks. I'll get the prototypes as soon as I can and will keep everyone updated on the progress.

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Neither. Per the post above, I hired a 3D modeler who is creating models of the photos of my packs that I sent him. Once complete and I am pleased with the models, I'll submit them to shapeways or another 3D printer source to make prototypes. From those prototypes, I'll either cast in resin or conti...

Re: Rucksacks and Military Equipment Castings
Ok, I see. I have the packs with the pegs and elastic straps as well as the new releases with just the pegs. I'd like to make packs with vinyl straps like the ones you prefer, but there'll be some work involved to see what is feasible. I'll keep you posted.

Based on the limited feedback I received on here and Fighting 1:18, I'll be going with the radio and frame combination and the lightweight rucksack. I'll post photos of the 3D models when they become available. The actual models may vary somewhat from the photos I posted. Rest assured that we've wor...

BTW, NO PINS!!!
I hate those things, along with the big hole in the back of the figure. Too reminiscent of my childhood GI Joe's.
