Re: Impressed with the FW190 A5 from Merit? You Decide.
Like you I ordered through EC Hobbies, though I didn't want to name them because I'm sure they have no control what comes down the pike. As for returning it...not a chance. And selling on Ebay is no option either. As people who have been on the forum long enough know, I don't like leaving the models...

Impressed with the FW190 A5 from Merit? You Decide.
Okay...so the wife has been bugging me lately to get something for myself for my birthday which was last month. So I've always wanted to get my hands on an FW190 A series aircraft instead of just the "Dora" offered by 21st back in the day. I have three of those BTW...just saying. Since Merit hasn't ...

Re: Need Help On Rudel Stuka !!!!!!!
Not absolutely positive, but I think I have the original (1st release) Stuka. If that's the one you refer to as the "Green with a yellow shield"....then maybe I can help. I assume you need the stab sent to you to color match....and then return it (of coarse). PM me with an address anad I can check o...

If you want to remove ALL paint (as well as plating...like chrome), use over cleaner. Soak the parts in a bucket overnight....worked for me.

Re: How to dismantle the F18 Hornet
There used to be a member here named MiG-29, who did an amazing detail re-work of the legacy Hornet. Besides accurizing everything he could, he added details such as working air brake, flaps, and slats, added the boarding ladder and refueling probe. The cockpit was also remarkable for everything he ...

Re: Vacuum forming?
Depends on how small and quick you want. Squadron makes clear sheets of formable plastic that you heat over a candle or similar small open heat source. While its warm, you stretch it over your form and viola....instand vacuum formed clear part. Replaced alot of small canopies and windows in scale mo...

Re: 1/18 F-18 exaust
There was a guy here several years ago named "Mig29" who did all those things to his Hornet....opening speed brakes, dropping and retracting flaps and slats, opening fuel probe and door, boarding ladder. It was amazing....wish I knew where he was now?

Re: 1/18 F-86 Question
I gotta jump in here for a minute. To help straighten the "hump" question out, I offer this little tid-bit. Admiral Toys made their F-86 from the "A" model....hence the port and hatch in front of the vertical stab are missing....as it should be. Now 21C modeled their F-86 from the "F-30-25" version....

Re: JSI Tomcat - Super Detailing???
According to a friend who is a retired Navy plane captain on Tomcats, in the latter years (F-14B+ and D) the RIOS assigned to his unit rarely wore knee boards. They relied instead on the pre-loaded checklists and maps on the MFDs. Earlier versions he had no clue about, but thought it strange because...

You made a reference earlier that the TA 152H was designed to carry an extra tank centerline, but that there was no "proof" of one ever doing it. Sorry, but not true. Your design to include is indeed accurate....I don't know the owner, but you might check this photo out. It is aledged to be a TA 152...

Re: Is Merit crazy?
I couldn't agree more about the price point of kits as opposed to pre-built and painted. DML apparently has a better idea of what sells and for what. The 1/6th scale PAK 38 Anti Tank gun sold for as much as $300 (with one figure), but the kit was available for much less. I believe I paid $48 plus sh...

Just a little side-light to the Avia S-199s. When the Czechs were building the S-199 shortly after the war was over, they ran into a production snag that became a major problem. The Germans during the war produced the Daimler-Benz DB-605 engines exclusively at their Germany factory....which was dest...

Re: Rebirth of the F14 Metal Landing Gear
I have a set of the original metal gear legs offered. The plastic "drag braces" that were supposed to be re-used would not work. The plastic had become so brittle, removing the hinge pins caused almost every one to snap the pin sockets out. I recently purchased the resin replacements and have only d...

Re: 1/18 FW190 conversion on Finescale Modeler
Scale thickness of wheels for most all 21C aircraft have been a problem....but there is a simple, low-tech fix. Remove the wheel and seperate the two halves they glued together. Cut squares of sheet styrene in any thickness you like and remember to cut a hole in the center. Test stack the squares un...

Re: JSI Tomcat - Super Detailing???
The clear should stick to the pencil and pen areas just fine. Problem is...depending on what clear you are using (spray paint or Future?), the paint can actually "eat" the pen or pencil marks. When I made my stiffeners, I had the same too thick problem. I use a single sheet and scrapped away a small...

Re: Building, Painting and Weathering Techniques
I'd be careful of applying pastels if you intend to coat them either with "Future" or clear flat. Every time I have tried to "fix" pastels so they won't come off, the color of the pastel has darkened alot. Ruins the effect most of the time and then you are stuck. A massive removal is the only recour...

Re: Call for ideas and tips - customizing BBI's Kiowa
The OH-58A (Bell Model 406) was quite a bit different from the current "D" Kiowas flown by the Army. You are talking massive surgery to convert the BBI model into an earlier version. The doghouse (upper transmission and engine housing) was WAY different. The Vietnam A models never carried Hellfire r...

Re: merit to release 1/18 Gr.FW-190 A-5 in 2013
Remember the old Gullows balsa FW-190? Built one so many years ago....probably before alot of you were born. Largest scale model I could find and I didn't care that it was tissue-covered. Hung from the ceiling of my room all through puberty and was lost in storage after I joined the Army after gradu...
