Question to Jack:
Is this metal gear upgrade an remove and replace on the existing gear with a small new part, or is it a total new metal gear that can be swapped out? If it is an entire new gear is it still retractable or is it a plug in part similar to the 1/32 BBI F-4 Phantom?
Thanks

To make JSI's Tomcat into a "D", whoa. You're talking alot of changes. Some easy, some hard. Easy: 1. Sand the ECM bumps under the wing glove. Some "D" models (when the "D" first came out) had the bumps. By the time of the Iraq war, all of them were gone. This would depend on which squadron flying a...

The wait may not be long for decals. As we know Brian at Fightertown Decals will most likely be producting some decals and Skyworks toys already has some made and will sell some of those. Don't know if you've heard of Zotz Decals. They are a Mexican company and they print in Mexico. Eli, the owner, ...

Has anyone figured out what that broken piece is that has come in several of the members' Tomcats? The one that looks a "T" that is grey and stretched 3 dimensionally about 1/2 inch?

The more I think about JSI releasing the Cat in kit form, the more I believe that this wasn't something in their original plans for selling all the F-14's they intended to make/sell. There was a rumor that their second paint scheme was going to be a VF-154 Black Knights since the Black Knights are v...

Quote from wolf8564 "Oh Please if only it was that easy! " That's funny. Yeah I guess I didn't think that everyone would immediately begin cutting up there F-14's like that. Although it would be very challenging to modify and scratchbuild parts for a 1/18 kit, it certainly would be easier on 1/18 th...

Brian that's awesome you're taking the plunge for decals for the JSI Cat. Your decals I’ve used on a1/72 Tomcat that I’ve built are awesome, especially those Cartograph printed ones. It seems that among most any collectors here the most requested will end up being: 1978 VF-41 Black Aces 1978 VF-84 J...

That's a great photo of AJ210. That one was taken around July 1978 towards the end of their 77-78 Med cruise. VF-84 had that paint scheme for only a year and it was already beginning to show wear. Amazing how fast paint jobs can weather while out at sea....

1/18 F-14 in kit form?!?! Holy cow!! Think of all the possibilities!! Decals for the other squadrons who actually flew JSI's "Bombcat" configuration such as VF-154, VF-211, VF-14, and VF-41 and then it gets better. If all the pieces truly are seperate it would much easier to scratch build to make it...

You're thinking of VX-4 "Evaluators". They were actually not a frontline nor training squadron but rather a test and evaluation squadron in Point Mugu. They actually had three or four Playboy bunny tail schemes. Two gray with black bunnies and two black tail with white bunnies. Not all at the same t...

Funny. I've studied that picture of that guy's 1/48 VF-84 Tomcat and swear the company who made those decals are all wrong. It portrays VF-84 F-14's on the USS Independence when VF-84 only ever served on that carrier from 1960-1969 flying first F-8 Crusaders then F-4B Phantoms. During this time peri...

That's gotta be a picture of some company's inventory to sell. There's safety tape on the floor and the floor looks like those interlocking computer access floors seen in offices that sit above a production floor and there's large flourescent lighting indicitave of a commercial location. However the...

Here's the ironic thing about the grey missiles with white tips. VF-84's low vis jets (AJ202 and higher numbers, a la non CAG or CO) did carry that bluish gray bodied Phoenix and Sidewinder and Sparrow combinations with white tips. It's their CAG and CO that were gloss gull grey (which is closer to ...

Don't worry about that big Tomcat arriving with a white belly because it won't happen. JSI is representing a 1988 VF-84 livery. The top, sides, and belly are all gloss gull grey. As for the Phoenix missiles in Merit's pictures they do look way to dark gray to match. They look more like the tactical ...

Is it me or does JSI have a thing for Dalmatians? It appears the weathering looks like some sort of McDougal spot pattern test for color blindness. Regardless that thing looks awesome! Wait I've noticed that the coloring on the Phoenixs missiles looks off. Quite a blue gray appearance. I know that f...

All I can say is WOW!! I wonder if the production version will really have that excellent of a paint job. I noticed it too regarding the vertical tails a la F-15 style. It should be an easy fix to give them 3 degrees outward cant. Researching through my F-14 books this particular VF-84 scheme is som...

Aviator Nut, When you held the Tomcat did you take notice at the dihedral on the vertical stabilizers? From every picture I see of this plane it appears the vertical stabs are perfectly parallel to one another like the F-15 Eagle. The Tomcat has roughly 3-5 degrees of outward cant on its tails. Has ...

I've ordered three BBI planes in the past two months with Small Joes and had excellent service. Great communication and very protective packaging and fast shipping. Great prices too!! I'll definitely get the 1/18 F-14 from Small Joes if he is able to receive them.
