Modern US Figures

Maybe I've missed it, but I've been looking and haven't seen quality 1:18 US desert figures -- just regular grunt types, not super-duper spec-ops.

Any pointers?

Thanks for that great overview on the P-38s. Very helpful for a newcomer like me!

Re: p-38

The sharkmouth is the "QVC exclusive" that I mentioned here: http://www.warbird-photos.com/gpxd/viewtopic.php?t=16438 For the different versions see Grunt's website here: http://www.sshqdb.com I think 100 is basically standard for P-38s at this point and everything except the D-Day S1 will be about...

MD's inventory is like a merry-go-round. You never know what is coming around the circle. No kidding! Since I got bitten by the bug and then turned on to MD from reading this forum, MD's site has become one of my main "nervous click" sites -- I hit it throughout the day while I'm working. A ...

I'm sure it's been done here before, but I'd be VERY curious to see discussion of actual numbers in terms of development and production costs for typical 1:18 products.

P-38s

Having finally snagged a P-38 on eBay, I should be satisfied. Naturally, I'm not. I got the California Cutie, which is OD. A number of the bare metal birds are coming up today. Is there some major distinction among them in terms of quality, rarity, etc.?

V-1 Launcher

Has anyone ever considered doing a V-1 launcher using the Pegasus model? There are lots of reference photos at the bottom of this page:

gburch did you get the California Cutie that sold today? Yep -- that was me. When I first started surfing about 1:18 relatively recently, I started to think the supply would be so short I wouldn't be able to get my hands on a P-38 at anything under $200+. The prices at the etailers was what finally...

MD just posted Pudgy P-38. Price seems high -- especially since I FINALLY snagged a P-38 on eBay today.

Just type in 999 into the quantity box and had it to your cart. It'll adjust to the amount they have in stock. Make sure to clear your cart when you're done.
Damn! That's clever.

... so I know that there are some world-class scratch-builders on this forum, up to and including folks who do the kind of resin casting that has always seemed like total magic to me. Is vacu-forming not a technology available to this echelon of modelers? I remember when I was a kid, we had a little...

I have always wanted to do one and it has been dicussed here in the past. It would be a fantastic project. But crazy pricy for retail. Why so pricey? I don't have a clue about the economics of these little buggers, but the molding doesn't seem more complex than many things on the market, and the am...

1:18 V-2

Has anyone ever discussed the idea of making a 1:18 V-2? I just did a quick check and calculation, and determined that it would be 30.6 inches tall standing on its fins. A simple model of the rocket's external shape could be done relatively cheaply, although care would have to be taken to get the co...

One specific plane I'm lusting after is the P-38. It looks like etailer prices are in the neighborhood of $200 I personally would never pay that much for one, and if you are patient and keep a sharp eye out at ebay I believe you can get one for considerably less than that. I don't collect 1/18 plan...

Thanks for the feedback, and I'll look for any more price tips I can find here. Throughout most of my life, I've had pretty good timing. But I got bit with the 1:18 bug only about a month ago, and the reading I've done on this forum and elsewhere indicates my timing is seriously *OFF* -- I missed a ...

Question about BB Corsair

I have the BB Corsair "Eileen." There are little dabs of silver paint around the engine cowl. I've looked at photos of other 1:18 BB Corsairs and seen the same thing. 1. Is this supposed to "be" something, or is it an error? 2. If the latter, is there a recommendation of the specific paint that woul...

New collector -- price questions

I just got bit with the 1:18 bug -- apparently just in time for 21C to bite the dust and, presumably, for prices to begin to skyrocket ... I see the prohibition for new members to post in the buy/sell/trade section, which I understand, but which is frustrating because there are a couple of items I'm...
