...hey, guys, thought i would comment on some of the wierd armor found in iraq. i saw firsthand and close-up several american m 113's in iraqi service, mostly abandoned near baghdad as we moved in though a few had battle damage, etc. also heard from very reliable source a sighting of an m 4 sherman ...

Sgt Stryker, A quick response to some of your questions as to paint schemes on OIF vehicles: I was with an AAV unit for the attack and saw 1st hand, we had a mix of paint jobs both woodland and desert tan and just kept them as they were (no time to repaint) for all vehicles involved from Abrams to H...

Klaus, your right on the money about the Bow Plane... one thing to consider about the AAV is the fact that it's more of a personnel carrier and by no means an Infantry Fighting Vehicle though recent events (Iraq) forced us to be employed in that manner, and it came at a price. Interesting note: with...

Klaus, Thanx for the insight... I guess it kinda makes sense that they would choose a scheme with some historical accuracy, etc... since the whole line of models to date are (as far as I can tell) pretty legit in that regard... it looks good, too. Now if I can locate one... BTW I stopped into a TRU ...

Centone, Seriously?... that sounds a little off the hook but I will give it a whirl. I once did a Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I by heating a small flat head screwdriver and melting the details right on to the appropriate parts ever so carefully... I think I then sanded these surfaces a bit to remove any hard ...

Sherman, I was checking out your online pics from the link... your Hanomag looks really good, better than the stock photo's shown on hobbyshop websites. Have you touched up the paint job at all? I am wanting to replicate zimmermit on the newly released Pz IV, does anyone know how to do this on the m...

Krieglok, Does the Franklin Mint version refer to a certain time period for the 29 Palms paint scheme? I just spent 4 years there not to mention a few CAX's (Combined Arms Exercises) thru the 90's out there and never noticed an Abrams painted that way... I'm not saying it's not possible but I'm sure...

One last question, has anyone been able to verify if the new 3 tone desert camo on the Action series Abrams is legit? I never saw one like that in the Marines and I lived across the street from 1st Tank Battalion for 4 years... Maybe an Army paint scheme? Just curious since it don't look bad at all....

Thnx for the update... I may as well scope the local Targets and TRU this morning since it's been a week. I swear the local TRU refuses to stock many military related items as compared to California when I lived there, as if it's not deemed PC and the manager was a flag burner from 67'. If your look...

BigDuke, my driver and I both snapped quick pictures while the event unfolded.... my "Milton Bradley" quality digital camera blurred the shot while my buddy's came out fine. ....It's no big secret, just a motto within the Amtrack field in the marines which stands for "you ain't tracks, you ain't shit", a unit pride slogan instilled in new crewman on their way to the Fleet for active duty convinced they're bullet-proof and the toughest guy in the bar, etc, etc,... goes b...

Don, I just read your account while on convoy duty in Baghdad and am glad your OK... I pulled my tour in Iraq in a Marine Corps AAV and can relate to the uncertainty of knowing your vehicle will probably not survive a hit. Your correct in your assesment as well, orders are orders. The inward shame o...

Forces of Valor AAVP7A1
I recieved my overpriced, hard to find AAV purchased from ebay about an hour ago and thought I would share my impressions here now that I have one in my collection... as I said in a seperate thread I served in Amtracs for some 15 years and just seperated from active duty in sept due to back injuries...

....good input by Klaus on the 60's nicknames, etc. The details were kinda fuzzy for me as we phased them out after Desert Storm and I only only personally knew a few tankers back then and few of the newer guys were around to even see an M 60 exept the one parked in front of the chow hall at 29 Palm...

Well said about FOV and 21st century differences... kinda like apples and oranges. Now that you mention it I took your advice on the M 60 and fixed the same problem on mine a few weeks ago. I also had my "Kanonewagon" halftrack completely apart to fix the gun mount and hull attachment... lots of scr...

I saw a reference to these at the Motorpool site a while ago... while I'm not crazy about the scale AAV's models are hard to come by and were virtually unknown outside the Marine Corps until recently... the coverage of the Iraq War has given them a lot of exposure and kindled some interest with mode...

I have yet to see anything new at all at TRU and I check quite often.... I broke down the other day and bought the AAVP7A1 on EBAY for 60 bones after shipping so rest ass...

...while waiting for the latest releases from FOV to appear on the shelves I have taken a fresh look at the last wave released and noticed some minor details... I was wondering if anyone else has taken notice as well. T 34 simply stated, it rides too high on its suspension as a result of it's suppor...

I know the Marines use the same type of markings and when applied to an AAV (troop carrier) it is in reference to the embarked infantry (about 1/2 a platoon per vehicle) and their position in relation to the Company when dismounted... Tanks and even Hummers are marked in this manner as well to aid i...

...does anyone know if the German Hanomag is going to be reissued? I'm new to the 1/18 world and just picked up the Tiger I at a Wal Mart... my only regret is that its in Panzer Gray and not the summer camo. Just pre ordered the Mk IV and while browsing the others I can see the Halftrack is a must-h...
