1/72nd scale US Fletcher" class destroyer - Yes, 1/72nd!
see: http://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=97127 Ran across this on another board and tried to track down some info. Apparently these are on the market in Europe, but Hobbico isn't advertising them in the USA. The only price reference I could find mentioned about 999 Euros in Germany. S...

Re: FOV 1/32 Creighton Abrams "Thunderbolt" Sherman
Historical note: Abrams went through a number of "Thunderbolts" during WW2. The one in question SHOULD be an M4, but the FoV M4A3 is as close as they can get. "Thunderbolt VI" was an M4A3 with 76mm gun and the most photographed is "Thunderbolt VII" which was an M4A3 76mm HVSS (M4A3E8). So yes, the s...

More German infantry from TSSD in the fall...
Toy Soldiers of San Diego has announced that their 1/32nd scale German infantry will get "reinforcements" in the fall of 2014. They will be producing a small "add-on" set. Rumored to be just four or so new poses, but at least it is something new in 1/32nd. Nick says that these should be available fo...

Re: Forces of Valor 2014 Toy Fair Catalog
They have some nice pieces but 1) they haven't put money into the 1/32nd armor/vehicle line in a while and 2) their prices went sky high. They have several chassis in the line that could be used to build from. That would save certain tooling costs. I don't mind the lack of weathering as I thought th...

Re: New KNC D-Day Sherman
Another problem - it is NOT a us "D-Day Sherman". It's an M4A2 which was used in combat by the British Commonwealth, the Russians and the USMC but NOT the US Army. Of course, fopr us purists the FoV Sherman isn't the right variant either!

Re: Renwal Models
Most of Renwal's tooling and the brand name was bought up by Monogram-Revell. Periodically they release some "classic" kits from Renwal, Revell or Monogram. In the last few years we have seen several of the old Renwal kits become available; M41 light tank, MACE missle with Terra-Cruzer launcher, M62...

Re: NEW FOV Panther 80082
I agree that the lack of weathering is not a big problem. Different machines will weather differently, so I don't like all the tanks looking the same. Plus, as mentioned earlier, FoV can do a pretty crappy job on the weathering. Their M26 Pershing had so many ding's and dents it looked like a relic ...

Re: WW2 US Marines figures
Before we all get really excited, please remember that Beau mentioned that the USMC are in the early stages of sculpting. He hasn't been able to afford to produce his Union "sack coat" or "Western" infantry set yet, so don't hold your breath waiting for the Marines. I will certainly buy them when th...

Any new stuff coming from FoV?
We had almost monthly releases from FoV in 2012. So far I haven't heard much out of them for 2013. I know we have the "wants" and "rumors" but has anyone heard about any new 1/32nd armor for 2013 yet? Thanks.

Re: FOV March 2013 Releases!!
I wonder why FOV re-released the DUKW. It was never really a popular piece. :( It threw me for a minute until I realized what you mean: it's a Ford GPA amphibious jeep. The DUKW was the amphibious 2 1/2 ton 6X6 (which is quite impressive in 1/32nd). These weren't even all that popular in the US Arm...

Re: NEW FORCES of VALOR 2013 PREDICTIONS
On one hand one tries to be "realistic" but two years ago would we have said that we would have a decent WC54 ambulance or a new-tool Sherman Vc in 1/32? Some things seem to come out of left field, but others that seem obvious to us get passed over. wierd stuff

Re: NEW FORCES of VALOR 2013 PREDICTIONS
I'm always fascinated with how often the Sturmtiger appears on these lists. Very few made, very little action, not significance to tank design history, and darned ugly to boot! 1- Maybe the M10 because they can recycle Sherman parts, but if they produce one the repaints are many and varied. 2 - Mayb...

Re: FOV Firefly
Thanks for the comments. It looks like FoV has done a decent model. A couple responses to your comments: 1) No .50 cal MG - the British, especially in NW Europe weren't that big on the commander's AA MG so they commonly omitted it. Very few "Firefly" photos show the external MG in place. 2) Molded o...

Re: FOV releases: January 2013
The blurb under the LCM appears to say 1/32nd, but the picture is under the heading "1/72nd vehicles". I doubt that this will be in 1/32nd as it would be awfully big! The old Lindberg LCVP and the plastic ones from BMC are over a foot long, the LCM was a bit larger - it would be pretty large (and ex...

Re: FoV "Firefly" availablity?
Quite right - it's clearly an M4A4 (British = Sherman V), so it's great for the British modeler - not only the "Firefly" with 17-pounder but it can be kitbashed back to a 75mm version. Bad news for the collector of US Army as the M4A4 didn't go overseas with any US units. Their were a few issued in ...

Re: FoV "Firefly" availablity?
The reason I want a rear view is to see if Unimax changed their tank from the previous M4A3 to an M4 (British = Sherman 1) or an M4A4 (British = Sherman V). The boxed view is hard to tell which way they went. The Sherman V would be great for British modelers as you can do several things besides "Fir...

FoV "Firefly" availablity?
The FoV Sherman "Firefly" was due out in Nov. Has anyone seen or acquired one yet? I am interested less in the British version than the revised hull and parts on the old FoV Sherman, so I want to see some photos of the hull and turret. Thanks for any updates.

Re: Need New Product Ideas. (Diecast)
I favor 1/32 WW2 armor. Despite what some say, I understand that you need some "good sellers" such as Panthers and Shermans to keep a line in production. It's nice to say "I want a Japanese WW2 tank" but how many will you buy at $60.00 each? I get sick of Tigers, but the darned things sell. Anyway, ...

Re: FOV GMC 2.5 CARGO TRUCK WITH 4X 0.5 MG
Did such combinations exist - yes, but they were rather rare. The idea was less about the "gun trucks" like they used for convoy escort in Viet Nam, but about giving better mobility to the towed quad fifties. In the US Army in WW2 there were "AntiAircraft Automatic Weapons Battalions (Self-Propelled...

Re: FOV November Releases!!!
Firefly looks good but I will be cautious. I hope we get a retooled hull as well as turret. FoV's basic vehicle is an M4A3 of which the British got a grand total of FIVE of various types for testing - none of which received a Firefly upgrade. There are also detail issues with the tank. The front of ...

Re: FOV 1/32 M60 Patton--Desert Storm?
I haven't seen one of these for a while, but for an M60A1 in Desert Storm it would have to be the USMC. They were the last to take the "diesel dinosaurs" into combat. I don't have my books here, but one USMC tank battalion was re-equippped with M1A1s and the other still had M60A1s. The US Army had u...
