transparent models...

in the past there were quite a few clear models. IMC used to make race cars in 1/25th scale and some had clear bodies so you could see all the "stuff". Monogram had the "Phantom Mustang" in 1/32nd scale - still available in a Revell limited re-release. I saw it at a Hobby Lobby for $49.00. They also...

280mm gun in 1/32nd...

There WERE models of the 280mm M65 gun ('Atomic Cannon") and the two trucks (one on each end) produced about 45 years ago by the old Renwal model company. These had a lot of detail problems by current model standards, but the gun was QUITE the beast! There was also a toy version in the 1950s - but I...

Wasn't there a self proppelled 155? M12 maybe? David Yes and no... The M12 was built in limited numbers using a WW1-vintage French-designed 155gun (M1917A1 or M1918) on the chassis of the M3 Medium ("Lee"). 74 of these went to the ETO for use in non-divisional SP artillery battalions and were quite...

Is the tank dozer out yet?

I noticed a 21C tankdozer offered on eBay. Are these out or is this some doofus offering an item he/she hasn't received yet?

the Big Guns...

These look really good! Now I can sell my W. Britains one and get these instead. By the way - "M59" and "M115" are NATO era designations, in WW2 it was the more cumbersome "155mm gun M2 on carriage M2" and variations of that. The proper towing vehicles were the 18-ton High Speed Tractor M4 (looks ki...

it's King and Country...

Unfortunately the only US GMC CCKW 2.5 ton truck EVER made in 1/32nd came from King and Country. It is now out of production and already demanding high prices.

I was dearly hoping that Unimax would put one in their 2007 line-up, but no luck!

yes, 8" howitzer...

Jagdplastic is right, the gun shown is the 8" howitzer. This weapon shared a carriage and recoil mechanism with the 155 gun, only the barrels were different. Like the 155gun, the 8" howitzer was used in seperate battalions assigned at corps or field army level. I agree - now we need an M4 High Speed...

desk top models

These are (or were) desk top "trophy" items that were usually given my an aircraft manufacturer to military officers and/ defense official. My father had two when he was in the military, both are now in my basement - one is an F16 and the other is an A10. They look larger than 1/48th, maybe close to...

lousy modelling...

What we have here is a demonstration of sloppy modeling. The difference between our "toy" market and "real models" is that we get "close is good enough". Most of our 1/32nd tanks came from 1/35th model kits including any mistakes that the original kit had. The pantograph them up about 10% more and m...

waiting for Shermans...

As a dedicated "Shermanoholic" I am really looking forward to seeing the new M4A3s. Hopefully they will come out better than the recent Hobby Boss 1/48th model Shermans out of China.

US M3A1 halftrack

I enjoy the US halftrack personnel carrier. It's basically a correct model, plus it is convertible to other vehicles. One of FoVs better efforts. Second choice would be the Pershing.

pretty cool...

Those new Dragon tanks look really nice! By the way, for those that aren't familiar, the tank Dragon chose to model "Velikye Luki", is the one most often credited with destroying Wittmann's last Tiger and killing him!

my vote goes to P82!!!!!

Many of the planes on the list are not exactly "obscure" to a person who has read many history books. You forgot one that would look really cool in 1/32nd - the P82 (later F82) Twin Mustang. Built just too late for WW2, it saw service in Korea. Operated in both natural metal and all-black nightfight...

that's been covered before....they can't simply scale up 1/32 models as the detail would not be crisp enough, so they have to make XD ones from scratch. That may be partly true, but as a long-time model builder I can tell you that almost all of the earlier 1/18th vehicles were basically pantographe...

Portions of the crew cabin have also not been painted with olive drab and remain in the primer color. I don't know if this is historical, No, not historical - the entire interior of an M7 would be OD. The WW2 standards stated that interiors of closed top tanks, etc should be white, but ANY PART visi...

available in Omaha

I picked up the P51B at the WalMart in West Omaha for $9.97. Not bad, but the wing-to-fuselage fit could be a lot better.

Ma Deuces....

Both types of gun are listed as "Machinegun, .50caliber, M2", however there are differences as noted. The M2HB is the ground-mount version commonly seen on tanks and combat vehicles. It has a 45-inch heavy barrel. The barrel is exposed, except for a short area right in front of the receiver (the "bo...

105mm conversion possibility...

By the way, for those of us who like conversions - the standard 105mm howitzer was the basis for the "towed tank destroyers", the 3" AT gun M5. The Army decided that not all TD units needed to be self-propelled (with M10s) so they adapted a 3" AAA gun barrel to the carriage, breech and recoil mechan...

1) the M1 tankdozer kit was a FAR more important development than the few Cullin/Douglas, etc devices used. 2) A far as taking hedgehogs to make your own, try Evergreen Styrene plastic, they have all kinds od structural shapes and you can reproduce the different designs used. 3) For those who don't ...

Tankdozer and M7

Nice to see 21C taking on the 1/32nd Sherman tankdozer. Do you know a projected delivery date?

Any new updates on when the 1/32nd M7 "Priest" will be here?

Thanks, I'm trying to plan my budget.

On the good news - an M4 with an M1 Dozer blade! On the bad news - the blade is on the same crappy M4 - no corrections to the mistakes (completely incorrect front hull shape due to oversize driver hatches, later suspension on early tank). For the fellow who wanted a DD - that would require all new m...
