Re: Is there at 1/35 modelling forum comparable to this one?

@ hworth: mainly Pz IV but also Pz III and maybe Pz V or VI. You could PM me. @ PlasticGeneral: in fact, it was the Dragon MAUS that I first discovered this horrible development of the individual tracks when i bought it 12 years ago. I never went beyond opening the box when I saw that -- it was like...

Is there at 1/35 modelling forum comparable to this one?

I haven't built a model in about 20 years but I just bought a few on Ebay and discovered to my horror that the norm is now individual link tracks rather than the admittedly less accurate vinyl tracks that we would see on a 1/32 tank as well. So: Is there a 1/35 modelling counterpart of this forum? a...

Thank you on the T-34 link, now question on 1/16th Panther

Thank you, Barbarian -- that is exactly what I had seen the other evening and could not find again. To all -- I am a mere dilletante in the frenzied world of toy tank collecting and have not looked at the market for about three years, but one of my idiot tenants destroyed my T-34 and that put me in ...

Where is the Merit T-34 available?

I saw online a static 1/16th T-34 for about $90 but now I can't find it again.

Is the Merit tank the one I must have seen?

Where are they available? I see their website but not dealers.

Re: Dragon 1/6 tank

A Dragon 1:6 Sherman  The Panzer II kit cost about $210 and has around 750 parts but it gives a good idea of what to expect if they go the Sherman route. Given Dragon's tendency for maximum detail in a kit, a Sherman will be insane. I would expect the kit to retail for at least $500, probabl...

Thank you both for the input

... and I'm open to other suggestions.

I sent both the links an e-mail.

I'm trying to avoid E-bay because of the appalling shipping costs.

Is there a US dealer that handles Matorro, WSN, and others?

Sorry if this is off topic for this main forum, feel free to shunt me elsewhere. I want to get the 1/16th-1/18th Matorro Tiger II, the WSN T-34, and the PzIII and PzIV (don't know their manufacturer). I searched and searched the internet and only see companies in Germany or Australia. Can anyone poi...

Sorry if OT, but Hasbro making GI Joe a UN peacekeeper

I'm sorry if this is old news here, but it made me angry, and I think a lot of hate-mail from current or former collectors to Hasbro would do a lot of good. The below letter was in the Army Times. You may have to search newswires to get the whole story. (I don't know who wrote this letter, I don't h...

Spud -- thank you for the bigger picture

The little picture looked to me like the indentation for a gun on a first-generation jet fighter.

Your bigger one made it obvious it was a wheel well in a wing root, which helped me at least.

Merit's 1/35 Dora

I'm curious about this:

"Merit ... also have a massive 1/35 Dora Railway gun model.

I didn't see this on the website you linked.

Doesn't this look way too stubby in both dimensions?

Maybe it is an illusion of the photos (because the Zero wings look distorted to me as well) but that doesn't look even close to proportionate to a real A-10 to me.

How big is the 1/9th Abrams, compared to 1/6th WWII things?

I know this isn't a 1/6th forum, but I'm sure there are a lot of crossover collectors here.

How big is that 1/9th Abrams, and how would it compare size-wize with a WWII Pz III or IV, for example?

My intuition is that the models would be similar-sized since the Abrams is so big.

I dont like the clipped wings

I'm not questioning the accuracy, but it is not aesthetically pleasing.

I'll probably get one, but part of their sales are as toys, and the rounded wingtips looked better to me.

They need to make an ME-109 G or Zero as its competition.

That is an unbelievable deal for $230

Another strange paint job

I like the paint scheme better than the first one, but the pictures (color and the former rust indentations now painted over) make it look like it's covered in moss.

Still. it's a great kit and I hope that 21C or Hen Long follow in its tracks (pun intended.)

I'm glad TRU was sold

It had totally morphed away from its original market (really cheap and really big selection) so I'm glad they're sold.

Perhaps the new owners will return to what made them the dominant force in the toy market.

I have heard extensively of Major Midnight

I'm very sure he is (or was) a pretty prolific customizer in 1/6th. I'm much more into 1/6th than 1/18th and frequent those boards much more than this one. However, I never heard him claiming this before, and the Kettentkrad came out 5 years ago, and the Pak-40 certainly a couple years ago. Either h...

I want to defend the Hen Long Tiger

I have both Hen Long and 21C Tigers and the Hen Long has at least as much detail and is a real, running toy with a shooting gun. Admittedly, it has the molded-as-recoiled barrel which basically HAS to be lengthened with appropriately-sized tube but which I found trivial to fix (and I have barely bui...

Peiper and the chamberpot

This is off-topic, but I don't think it was Peiper who did the medals in the chamberpot thing (it was a WSS unit, but I think it was someone else like Dietrich or Bittrich) Peiper (besides the murky circumstances of the Malmedy massacre -- I'm honestly uncertain about fault there despite reading 3-4...

Our P-40s weren't as maneuverable as Zeroes but not hopeless

I think it definitely would have made a big difference if we had gotten our P-40s into the air at Pearl Harbor. Taylor and the other guy did get a few planes and just having US fighters in the air would have distracted the attackers bomb or torpedo runs. The Flying Tigers did OK with P-40s (after le...

Someone please post pictures Hen Long, Tamiya, 21C Tigers

Thanks to T-man for posting the e-bay pictures of the Tiger and "Panther". As you can see, the "Panther" is just dreadful -- Tiger running gear with a mis-sized Panther-ish upper deck and turret. However, I maintain the Tiger is very nice -- certainly at least as good as a 21C product (I have them b...

I don't know about a Sherman, but there is NOT a Panther

I only do German things so I don't know about a Sherman, but they definitely don't have a panther now. They have a vehicle that is a Panther turret on the Tiger chassis (I have heard this, have not seen it) but that is of no interest to me.) The Tiger itself is great -- it does everything it promise...

It is NOT a Marui -- it is a company called Hen Long

The kit itself I think is a shameless copy of the Tamiya 1/16th Tiger (it looks like a scaled-up Tamiya 1/35th Tiger, hence my suspicions, although I don't have Tamiya's 1/16th kit.) I got mine at a company called Raidentech http://www.raidentech.com/ This is NOT an advertisement -- I ordered it and...
