New AeroArt P-51D

hworth: Oops, my bad! OnMark's site has been promising the AeroArt planes for years, but I didn't see where they had come in. Then again, the product links on his website don't work for me (probably my Java version is too old or something). Anyway, do you know if or when OnMark is getting in the 1:4...

Best Online broker for FOV

DocTodd: I'm not sure the dealers I use are the cheapest around, but they get the FOV stuff to me quickly, in one piece, and without snafus. I like (in no particular order): www.the motorpool.bigstep.com, www.hobbybunker.com, www.toysoldiercompany.com, www.bigboyswartoys.com, www.michtoy.com, www.on...

New AeroArt 1:72 P-51D

This doesn't float my boat 'cause I don't collect 1:72 stuff (he sniffed), but Aiken's airplanes (www.aikensairplanes.com) has got the first AeroArt 1:72 plane in: the P-51D. As you may know, AeroArt is coming out with the usual suspects (P-51D, Spitfire, BF-109, Zero), in 1:72, 1:48, 1:24, and 1:14...

2000 S1 21C XD Product Line. True Scales

Mighty Mustang: Just to add my two cents (so who asked?): P-51's excellent pictures say it all concerning the size of the P-47, but I might add that Tarheel Hal (the Lonestar Flight Museum's P-47D) made a pit stop last year at the Hot Springs airport. It was a truly immense airplane. I recognized th...

New BBI P-51 Repaints

Oops! About 'dem bombs on "Cripes-A-Mighty". I forgot that "Killer" came with 'em too! Cripes-a-Mighty will have fuel tanks as well, according to BadCat. Incidentally, BadCat says those bombs are 250 pounders-they sure look like 500 pounders to me. Compare "Killer's" bombs next to its pilot for scale.

New BBI P-51 Repaints

If anyone has already reported this I apologize. Dirk Unterberg has posted a nice side view of "Cripes-A-Mighty", one of the two new BBI P-51D repaints. Looks to me like they have tweaked the propeller spinner, as mentioned previously. It's carrying ordnance (500lb bombs?) rather than fuel tanks lik...

21C XD Avenger: Bad News and Good News

My spy at Twenty-First Century has bad news and good news. Bad news? The release date for the Avenger has been pushed back to the year 2165. Good news? Using his technical wizardry, Roy Sutherland has built a fully-functioning time machine and will teleport you to 2165 for $50 a pop. Warning: in 216...

Displaying your 1:18 Models

ww2collecter: Thanks for the pix. I myself do not have a digital camera or the computer expertise to post pictures. The Plano Dura-shelf shelves I use are white, with a kind of filligree on the shelf edges. The white color sets off the models better than dark gray, IMHO. Y'all can get 'em at Wal-Mar...

Displaying your 1:18 Models

In many threads on Groundpounders, I hear people moaning about lack of space to display their XD collections. It is a real problem! I buy these white plastic snap-together plastic shelves. The brand is "Dura-shelf", made by Plano Co. I get the 907 model. One set is 12" deep by 32" long by 48" high, ...

1/18 P-47D Questions

Mighty Mustang: IMHO the 21C P-47D Razorback versions are better than the bubbletop versions because the fit and finish of the Razorbacks are superior and because they have a radio mast. The bubbletop versions have gaps between the top and bottom halves of the wings and lack a radio mast. They also ...

In keeping with their excellent track record of movie product tie-ins, word on the street is that 21st Century is producing the merchandise for the new MGM action flick "The Young Podiatrists". Franklin Mint/Armour 1:48 Allied Bombers

Tinman: The B-26 Marauder is definitely coming in June. I must also agree with smh_1021 that the quality of FM/AC planes is definitely slipping. Both versions of the Zero I got from them had a crooked prop blade and incorrectly-angled landing gear. The Bf-109Gs lack the little side air intakes on th...

1:32 FOV aircraft question

As far as I'm aware, Forces of Valor is coming out with three 1:32 diecast planes this year: the P-51D, the Bf-109G, and the Spitfire Mark IX. NOTICE I SAID MARK IX! They will be issued in several different paint schemes. They should be out in June or July. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Corgi i...

Franklin mint/Armour 1:48 Allied Bombers

Tinman: IMHO the Franklin Mint bombers defy adequate praise-they are superb! They are super-detailed and accurately painted. My only quibble is that the wings on the B-17 lack any dihedral (I'm pretty sure they had some), but the planes are still very nice. Also, the B-24 has a built-in skid to prop ...

Where the heck is bbi?

Dirk Unterberg, the proprietor of an XD shop in Germany (www.warbirdmodelle.de) posted a message here a while back saying BBI was planning to bring out a Russian Mi-24 Hind helo in 1:18. There have also been persistent rumours that BBI was working on an XD Hellcat and, possibly, a Zero. However, I g...

Terz: 21C released an M-48 Patton about three or four years ago, very surreptitiously. I only heard about it by accident when I was querying a small dealer as to his inventory. It was released in olive drab as a Vietnam version, with one .50 cal in the turret cupola and another on top of that in a p...

Aikens airplanes (www.Aikensairplanes.com) has posted pictures of a new line of 1:72 jet fighters by Gaincorp. Included are pix of several new Russian Sukhois and a U.S. F-15. They look really nice. Too bad I don't collect 1:72 stuff. If only they were in 1:48 (sob!)

Hworth18: I know it's expensive to produce the tooling pattern for a new model (I guess about $100,000 per model), and that these guys have to make their money back. It just gets depressing when so much new stuff is coming out in 1:72 scale (several new players lately), but so little comes out in 1:...

Here in Hot Springs, Arkansas, I check the two Wal-Marts regularly. Nothing New! The same few Bf-109Es and FW-190Ds have been gathering dust for months. Despite James Allen's assertions of improved stocking, I have never seen any of the following at Hot Springs Wal-Marts: Air Cav Huey, Cobra, Corsai...
